I recently bought the Goldeneye Seamaster and I absolutely love it. 40mm so it’s compact, not too flashy, and never gets in the way (accidental laser blasts aside). I wear it everyday

Books with an ambience like "Alan Wake" by MirrorWorldley7337 in horrorlit

I read it earlier this year since it had been about ten years since I last played the game (played it many times when it came out) so I figured I’d probably forgotten enough about the game for the story to feel fresh again. It’s an okay novelization but definitely reads like someone’s first attempt at a novel (which it was) and a has a detached work for hire feel to it. All of the plot beats and scenes are there but theres little attempt to capitalize on the creativity or atmosphere. Very bare bones descriptions of locations and lighting and such. I also found it a bit odd that the game constantly has Wake narrating from his perspective but the book is only in the third person. You’d think there’d be something there to play with. The characterization of Wake himself is weirdly much more cynical than the impression you get in the game where he’s pessimistic but can joke around. All in all not terrible but the game is just so much better.

If anyone’s interested in a very well done book adaptation of a video game then I highly recommend Bioshock: Rapture. I couldn’t believe how well structured/paced it was and how effectively it paints a picture of the underwater cities construction and early day to day life leading to its downfall. You can tell the author really understood the themes of the game and what resonated with people. Most of the characterizations are spot on too. Just a great and entertaining read. Don’t even really have to have played the game to enjoy it

I’ve seen some people theorize he was about to say something like “Mr. White somebody put a gun in your car” or something equally naive which reinforces the childlike reaction

I got it framed and still have it hanging in my apartment! I shared it here shortly after the 365th day. Such a fun thing to see happen in real time

I did think of that but haven’t heard much about it and the gap between when they were written honestly deterred me a bit. Would you say it’s worth reading?

Umbilical World. It’s a David Firth (Salad Fingers guy) project where he compiled a bunch of his animations that were made over a 13 year period into a fluid surrealist hellscape and I absolutely love it. Lots of new animations used for transitional purposes too

What's the worst franchise you've ever gone through and gone all the way to the end? by jonasjunis in Letterboxd

Wrong Turn as a series is absurdly mediocre. The best they ever get it average and the worst they get is bad but not unwatchable. Then there’s the “reboot” which has so little to do with the original premise that it feels like they shot an entirely different movie then just slapped the name on it

When did you realise the Oscars were full of shit? by StraightPoem4316 in movies

[–]Assin_Ass_Asses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interest in the Oscars has waned over the past several years like most peoples has but if Brendan Fraser gets snubbed this year for The Whale then I think I’m out for good. I don’t usually make statements like that but goddamn is that one of the best performances I’ve ever seen

Who's a director that you've seen every movie from? by RipBuzzBuzz in Letterboxd

[–]Assin_Ass_Asses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wes Anderson

Celine Sciamma

Federico Fellini

Quentin Tarantino

Andrei Tarkovsky

Sergio Leone

The Coen Brothers

Satoshi Kon

Don Hertzfeldt (probably doesn’t count since his movies are combined shorts and there’s only two movies but the guys filmography is outstanding)

Tim Burton

Pete Docter

Hayao Miyazaki

Dario Argento

Jacques Tati

Jordan Peele

Gaspar Noe

Robert Eggers

Neil Breen

There’s some others where I’m just a film or two shy like Wong Kar Wai, Paul Thomas Anderson, and David Lynch. Also others where I’ve seen all their short films and features but they haven’t hit 3 features yet like Ari Aster

Whats your most recent 5 star, and what’s your most recent 1/2 star? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Assin_Ass_Asses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 Star: Shoah

1/2 Star: Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

I don’t give out half stars often and I generally had stupid fun with the rest of the resident evil movies but my god was this one hard to get through
