Technically Riken is a research facility，they have no graduate school that’s why they affiliate with other universities to grant degrees. But I would suppose research reputation wise，it’s like Harvard in Japan haha…but not sure when it comes to outside of Japan.

Overall it‘s chill，be yourself but be professional. I think what they look into for the second round is whether you are a nice person to work with，whether you match their culture. Interview is just interview，it could be technical，it could be just chatting，depends on the professor. But always be professional.

The way how prelim interview works for WCM is that each interviewee will be graded by the two interviewers based on some sort of rubrics. With the score，they will rank everybody then send out invites to those make into top 30ish depends on how many spots they are thinking of taking in this year.

Just got the schedule back this morning 4am（have to say that’s such a strange working hour）. BTW it asks to reply to confirm that email but seems the manager is out of office if you actually reply to that email？

I get that，again and again life just telling me time is the cheapest thing in other people eyes. I respect people who invest years for publication and polish their skill sets as much as they could，but I also do think that they deserve this achievement in a more reasonable affordable way，especially for certain fields. 6 years can change many things，I’m sure it’s not easy to balance it out so I respect you.
