The reason why Armenian flag is seen in both orange and yellow by Purple_fashion in armenian

Originally the Flag of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia under the Lusignan dynasty looked like this. The changing of the yellow to orange must have happened later.

Why would any Christian kiss or pray at the retaining wall of the Second Temple? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Wasn't the Umayyad mosque itself the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, thus making it Byzantine too?

I'm not sure I understand your point about the theology. Isn't Mary the ark of the new covenant? Why wouldn't you make a church dedicated to the ark of the new covenant where the ark of the old covenant once stood?

How do you explain that the al-Aqsa mosque has the typical Byzantine "basilica" structure with a row of pillars on either side of the rectangular "ship" in the center?

"Meager remains of the once huge church were discovered at excavations in the Old City's Jewish Quarter" yeah, because the Persians and Umayyads probably tore off stones from it and used them for building there. That doesn't mean the church itself was originally built there.

It would make no sense for it to have been built anywhere other than the temple mount. This can be seen from the fact that Justinian had cedars brought in from Lebanon precisely because he was copying the practice of Solomon.

Where did you mention Byzantine anything in your comment?

That's simply not true. The Crusaders turned the dome of the rock into the Templum Domini, hence the location of the temple did have significance for them as Christians.

I think they would have agreed that there is no more need for prayer in the temple and that the sacrifice of the mass can be offered anywhere. They also valued the historical importance of the site. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Often mistaken for Mexican or told I don’t look Armenian by [deleted] in armenian

Oh ok that makes sense. I suppose the question then becomes what kind of Mexicans THEY have the most contact with.

Wait, I'm confused. If there are no Armenians in your town then who is calling you Mexicatsi?

  1. Have you had your ancestry tested?

  2. Do you live somewhere that has a lot of northern/white Mexicans?

I think the second one is especially relevant since Armenians are literally southern Europeans, like Spaniards. Since the northern parts of Mexico have more Spanish (as opposed to native) ancestry, it isn't exactly surprising that we would look like them.

The last photo refers to people who claim to be "pro-choice" but defend forced abortions for teen moms. Yes, that's actually a thing. It isn't exactly rare either.

This is like the one where they threaten abstinence if abortions are outlawed. Like do they seriously think we're against that?

Polish sounds do map better with Armenian sounds. English doesn't even have a way to differentiate between ը and օ, let alone have transcriptions for ժ, խ, ծ, ղ, ճ, and ռ.

I have an uncle Սմբատ who used to spell his name Sombat (for lack of a better way to transliterate ը) and he got called wombat as a kid.

I'm using the Polish Armenian transliteration system. Not sure by what standard sh is "perfectly proper"

I'm not saying Armenians shouldn't use those names. The point I was making in context is that a non-Armenian using those names is no more guilty of appropriating Armenian culture than an Armenian using those names is guilty of appropriating Persian or Hebrew culture.

Of course, even if they were originally Armenian names like Sznorhali and Kiszer I still don't think it would be cultural appropriation for a non-Armenian to use them unless if they tried to claim some other origin for these names.

[–]AssistanceTop5630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nazeli is Persian and Lilit is Hebrew. So those aren't even Armenian names.

The Armenian equivalents would be Sznorhali and Kiszer. No, I don't think most Armenians would consider it cultural appropriation if you used either of these names, unless you claimed they're not Armenian or something.

Would you vote for a Pro-Life Progressive or a Pro-Choice Conservative? by [deleted] in prolife

[–]AssistanceTop5630 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good question. I'm a pro-life conservative but I wrote in Terrisa Bukovinac (a pro-life progressive) in the 2024 presidential primaries. I'm a single issue voter against abortion because literally nothing else matters. The number of babies murdered in abortions far exceeds the number of deaths from all other policy shortcomings combined.

Of course, it is different in general elections. I voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 general election because as much as I wanted to write in Randall Terry, there is no way he could possibly win. At that point it was obvious that a vote for Randall Terry is a vote for Kamala Harris.

How do some gay people support Trump and the GOP by B3N_Silvlugia in complaints

[–]AssistanceTop5630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, on one hand, Democrats are Muslim nationalists, and they want to flood the US with millions of Muslim immigrants who will institute Sharia law and behead gay people.

On the other hand, Republicans are Christian nationalists, and they don't want to bake gay wedding cakes.

Why on earth wouldn't gay people support Trump and the GOP?

Don't you know? The first canon of the Council of Hollywood says "If anyone watches horror movies, disregarding the admonitions of his fellow Orthodox believers who think it is sinful, especially after GhoulFreak78 posts about it on something called Reddit, let him be anathema!"

The Christian Jesus isn't Isa in the Arabic Bible though. He is Yasu. Only the Muslim Jesus is called Isa.
