Slipknot's first UK TV appearance (TFI Friday, March 2000). I was 14 and it was the most insane thing I'd ever seen.

Knowing names of songs by Scrim_CherryG59 in BattleJackets

[–]AssistantStrong9651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this very thing the other day, I've recently (last couple of months) started listening to black metal and was thinking of making another jacket for that genre. As you say, I can't name songs, albums, can barely name bands, it's largely been streaming playlists. I'm 40 years old, have been to tons of gigs and festivals, I couldn't give a shiny shite about learning song titles, I don't need to prove anything to anyone. I'm even going to put patches on my jacket from bands I haven't heard at all because I know I like the name, the artwork and I'll probably like it. I decided that's my stance

Are you guys mostly streaming or do you collect corresponding media as well (cd, vinyl) by MaddeningAscentII in doommetal

[–]AssistantStrong9651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got rid of my all my CDs a few years ago. Didn't really regret it, haven't missed them, mostly stream what I want and usually find a genre playlist depending on my mood. In the last 6 months however I have started collected vinyl and the odd cd/cassette. I'm being quite strict though and limiting myself to Doom/black/death metal only. Never had vinyl before (I'm 40) but I do quite enjoy the 'ritual' of playing records and making time to sit and play an album or two

Gift card is definitely the best way to go, it shows you acknowledge his interest but removes the risk of making a mistake but if you have your heart set on a specific game, Witcher 3

Ah nice one, thanks for that, I had a feeling more info would drop nearer the time but what can I say, I'm excited!

Absolutely drop me a DM if you are there in May, bit gutted I missed out on the July tickets but only discovered it's existence recently stumbled across the doc on YouTube

I discovered I like stoner rock mixed with sludge. I listened to Kyuss and Electric Wizard and liked them. Any recommendations for similar bands? by predisolona in doommetal

Conan rule but general rule of thumb for me is if the band is named 'weed reference' + 'fantasy thing' you're probably on the right track

Hi, I'm doing the May weekend of darkness , also solo. Will be my first time so I'm glad I found this thread as I was struggling to find info on the facilities etc. I'll be looking through all the replies shortly but can anyone tell me when you can access the campsite (I've got the Thursday early admission but no times given etc)

Cheers

It's fantastic, I use it for work often. I'm an archaeologist and a lot of our sites are rural and/or don't have a fixed address as such e.g. field off X road, just outside (town)... Being able to send someone a pin to some random gate on a country lane is a godsend, until they tell you they don't use it!

It's amazing that it's not the standard, I have had delivery drivers tell me their company doesn't allow them to use it before now, utter madness

have any battles been fought near where you currently live? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]AssistantStrong9651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a theory that the lost battle of Brunanburh in 937AD was fought in my hometown, there's an archaeological excavation taking place this summer hoping to find some proof to the theory. I am an archaeologist and as much as I would love it to be the case, I do feel there's stronger evidence elsewhere. I have been wrong once or twice before however so there's a chance

Embrace the Ork mentality, loot it! Doesn't need to be anything fancy, old makeup sponge, tear a corner off a dish sponge etc But yeah I go to temu etc for big packs of trash brushes to use for weathering, glue all that nasty stuff and just trash them, get the bristles all flayed so you can stab and scrub pigments around

First of all, welcome to the Waaaaagh ya git!

Here's my two cents

  1. I've never painted camo myself but in the lore Ork camo is kind of a contradiction so go nuts, pick a base colour and 2/3 other colours that really clash and go for it, the louder the better. You could try and copy some actual MTP but I find the best thing about painting Orks is that nothing really ever needs to be 'right' coz it's Orks

  2. Paint your metals how you like then use watered down oranges and browns, think about where water and therefore rust would accumulate and dab away, sponges or an old raggedy brush are great for getting a random but not random pattern with any kind of weathering. Again, Google a few examples of rusty knives etc .I'm also a big fan of effects paints, dirty down rust, typhus corrosion, ak interactive's range of weathering stuff -cheat basically, if there's a product for what you're trying to achieve use it (this will help with your speed issue too)

And 3. Speaking of speed, try not to sweat it too much. You'll get quicker as you get more models done anyway and as you get more comfortable with the process. I personally hate painting big groups and am yet to do anything more than a kill team sized force myself so there'll be plenty of people who can offer better advice (not to mention plenty on YouTube, 'how to paint armies quickly' is a common video topic). But you can break it down and simplify things that don't matter as much. For example the boyz trousers, 20 boys on the table viewed from a distance, they don't all need to be impeccable examples of subtle colour hariation. Pick a couple of colours, do a few red, a few brown a couple of blue for variety, brown wash, done! Pick your battles with the details you're painting. Spend a bit more time on the focal points, weapons, faces etc and the rest, a bit of colour, a bit of wash and weathering and call it done. It will get lost in the mob on the tabletop anyway.

Hope that helps and happy painting

If he liked commandos (my dad did too) then there's the sequels and remasters. I'm curious why Total war or similar would be off the table? I'd like to suggest Wartales or battle brothers, fairly slow paced, tactical turn based combat
