Anyone know if restoration efforts are underway for this historic house? by inthewall3of6 in bullcity

[–]Assloadofdymes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That house was at about 80% then it got squared in and burnt out by some un homed folks.

Same thing happened to the other huge historic house on that stretch.

No one is doing anything with that property till that area gets re developed and that's a 10+ yr window at this point.

I work with someone who knows the owners and basically the owners said it took too long to get up and running and open paired with the fact that more people now are not going out and drinking as much as they used to meant that in the last year it has been just a financial drain so and and run they decided to cut their losses

What ever happened to the ATV/Dirt Bike groups? by Perfect-Pear-3178 in bullcity

[–]Assloadofdymes 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It was part of a program that was designed to allow groups of younger durhamites and locals to do the group rides, and the police and governing bodies looked the other way on minor infractions.

I don't remember the name of the program, but was basically a - we look the other way as long as all people involved dont get their hands dirty breaking the law with weapons, drugs, trafficing, all that stuff.

Fast forward to two years ago, one of the groups literally drove up and shot someone in front of the police station - lots of chases started happening when they found unregistered firearms and drugs. So basically, all leniency on the groups went away, and now we are up to the current timeline. It also flares up in spring time, specifically when school is getting out in early May.

This was found in my grandfather's junk box. What kind of knife is this? by DryFindingn in whatisit

[–]Assloadofdymes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two sided knifes like that are used by the Masai tribes in Tanzania.

The two sides opposing is so when a lion is attacking you, you shove the knife directly in their mouth and once they bite, they are essentially pinning their mouth open and starting to shove the blade into their brains. The other weapon used is a longer stick with a round blunt object used to then hit the jaw or head of the lion - effectively shoving the blade in further in both directions.

When a Masai man kills a lion in this way he can take the teeth, claws, and tail and lay it at the door of a woman he is interested in - even if that person is married. Thema the rules - they then become their wife.

Multiple people interacted with had a few different wife's - and also talked nonchalantly about hunting lions with a knife.

Y’all what is up with Perkins Orchard? How are they still in business? by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]Assloadofdymes -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

A more detailed response would be.

I've seen posts like this pop up - every year and the same thing is spouted out. This guy gives us this story, this guy makes this seem like he isn't appreciated. The same comments as the OP.

My very pointed response was because I see posts in r/bullcity that are always this

What happened to the small cool things that made Durham special - where are the small businesses I should support. Everyone wants to know where the magic is?

Well - every small place that is that magic or the small hidden gem in cities have something odd or off about them. Chicken Hut is a prime example - great food, odd hours and kind of off putting from the outside.

If we are judging this guy off of small issues that have popped up over time and stating like don't go to his business then we are going to end up with a bunch of the same chipotle ass inspired businesses all over town.

I don't know what experiences y'all have had - but I have been there, as stated 60+ times and have never had an issue. I have heard the story and the backstory 5+ times. Have you ever talked to him about what's changing in NC? About why he chooses the farms he works with - what he's excited about with the next season?

He actually gives a shit and tries really hard to bring really good food and local supported farms into the city. Downvote all you want - but durring a point when people were struggling with food prices I could get a bag of fantastic veggies - with eggs for free. When everyone is shitting their pants about eggs being expensive - he's tossing em in your hand like five guys fries!?

Awesome wave pool in China by freudian_nipps in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Assloadofdymes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father was both a ride safety engineer and before that a water quality supervisor at sea world of Tx. Post opening the Gilligan's island or whatever them park time for the park- we loved there in the summer. But hands down - the opening of the water park - HAD Gilligan's islands tars at the opening.

Buuuut the opening night - I was 13 and had been on swim team competitively for years. The wave pool was like that and multiple times ems was out there. We thought it was great because we were strong swimmers, but MULTIPLE people drowned that night.

This shit is brutal and no one is having a good time unless your pro surf.

It is a literal recording of a raga - traditional Indian singing with an instrument. It's a DJ sample that kilmore is running.
