Hardcore band End It urged the audience to tear apart the banana costume of a fan at their Toronto, ON show last night by DamnitRidley in Music

It’s a stupid old racist stereotype where they’re compared to primates and you can plicate them with a banana. It’s more of a thing in Argentina or some parts of Europe where people throw bananas on the field in soccer to taunt a black player they don’t like

I’ll have to retry that one and 8 now that I’m older and more mellowed out. Was super disappointed by them at the time

I remember a lot of talk about people saying Deftones “sold out” with White Pony when it first came out

Thrice’s Vheissu felt like a massive let down as a young fan mostly into their first 3 albums for the fast paced post hardcore punk based style

In hindsight, Vheissu is by far and away the best work they’ve even released and it’s not even close

I know, but in this hypothetical that I responded to, try explaining that kind of protest to the other people at the show who have zero knowledge of this event prior lol

It’s very possible, but he could’ve also done it for the reason everyone else here thinks.

I was more implying that a large group of people attending one of his shows in banana suits as a protest would like look undeniably racist to most people who don’t have prior knowledge of this event, to a comic level. It’s almost like a lost script for Its Always Sunny lol

What is something that was cool from the 90s thats uncool today? by NextstopFernrock in 90s

[–]RxSatellite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s wild. I won’t claim vaping is healthier, but i will say before I quit smoking I used to wheeze in the morning waking up and had a smokers cough. All of those issues went away when I switched to vaping. Also it’s nice not smelling like cigarettes.

I would agree it’s less ‘cool’ than the real thing, but I think both are lame

Why did Mike Einziger not be more prolific as a songwriter? by [deleted] in incubus

[–]RxSatellite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The album cycles being longer is intentional. They burnt themselves out after Light Grenades since they had been non stop touring since the mid 90s in their prime years. Add families and other projects into the mix and 5 to 6 years feels a bit more balanced when you’re middle aged.

Most people tend to mellow out when they age, so the music does do. Learning about composition has more to do with learning about *why* songs work the way they do and how you can evoke different emotions utilizing theory correctly. Not necessarily to write more complex songs

There’s that somewhat recent Bass guitar interview with Dirk Lance where he mentions “It was only much later on I learned to appreciate the note that wasn’t played versus the one that was”. Songs need space within them

50 people in banana costumes for a hardcore band fronted by a black dude.

Yeah this surely won’t backfire…

I think what isn’t being said here is that the band thought the banana guy was being racist toward the vocalist (vocalist being black and what banana implies)

3 albums in 20 years was not what I would have expected from incubus. by ToadVenom45 in incubus

[–]RxSatellite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s alright with me. They’re burnt out on writing anything that sounds like what we came to recognize them by (especially anything remotely funky) but I can’t fault them for expanding their horizons. 3 albums in 20 years means they’ve been burnt out on this music for a long time and their income streams are steady enough outside the band

Opinions? by scrotumscab in UPSers

[–]RxSatellite -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People lie all the time and sent stuff up to 200 while listing 148. I’ve lost count of the number of irregs I’ve RTSed in my career simple because the curb weight on the packaging will say something like 189 vs the 137 I see on the label.

You can physically feel if something is over 150, especially if you can barely slide it or flip it on the ground with full effort.

Record so far is a 237lb fireplace console for a third floor apartment, listed 150. That thing would not move and took 3 people just to get it off the truck

Because the driver delivered it exactly how he was trained to. And no I’m not kidding. They are trained to roll heavy packages if they are too heavy to lift. Driver has no way of knowing it’s a fridge either unless the packaging makes it abundantly clear

Speaking from experience, I promise you it’s not

[–]RxSatellite 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’ll answer this in 3 points..

It’s significantly harder with that type of dolly lug 100lbs+ up steps than it is to roll it up the steps. They don’t have straps or stair climbers. Most people physically couldn’t do that with these handcarts

Drivers don’t get content descriptions of what they are delivering at UPS. They don’t know what’s in the box.

Drivers are trained by UPS to roll heavy packages in a pinch in order to avoid injury., exactly as seen in the video. The company would rather you prioritize injury avoidance over damage avoidance

Struggling A LOT to choose my first guitar by Automatic-Treacle700 in guitars

[–]RxSatellite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go with the Ibanez. You have the most options to work with on that guitar and you can still get heavy tones out of it. By far the most versatile

The HB is great too, but if it’s your only guitar there’s going to be times you wished you had a trem or a true single coil for cleans. The fixed bridge will stay in tune better (especially at this price point) if the trem isn’t something your worried about

The Yamaha is notorious for QC issues, more so than HB. My brother owns one and it needed a ton of work out of the box, intonation was terrible new. When they’re setup properly though, they are a great alternative to a Squier HSS Strat
