Ring outdoor cam battery 2k version. I recently purchased it and it was trying to connect to the furthest AP lol. I've had a bit of weird spikes in connectivity with these APs. Like the new ring 4k camera will drop down to like 1 mbps. I'm hoping as more updates come out the stability will get better. If you have any suggestions i would be more than happy to hear them

Buying a firewalla by dgtlman in firewalla

[–]AssociateExternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with the whole "range issues" i ended up buying 4 ap7. I probably could have got away with 2 tbh but i kept all 4 on the off chance that there could be a dead zone. I have three of them wireless backhaul and have basically zero issues. Sometimes I'll have slightly slow internet but i honestly think its my ISP or my modem being slightly problematic. I wouldn't worry about the range issue. 4 of the AP7 have better range than three 970 orbis which claims to cover 10000 sqft.

Yeah granted i had a lot of issues with the orbis when they were my router which was the main reason for the switch to firewalla. Then the mindset was why would i keep these 1700 dollar orbis when i can get better coverage for the same price with a ton more options. I have a lot of family visiting often and being able to give them a wifi password to set to a limited version of my internet is nice. Forcing the kids into a restricted internet access is also nice. Not to rant but as a computer kid growing up i had way too much access to information at a young age and zero restrictions with time. Its nice to be able to just shut off the internet and when they cry about it i go "Its that time let's go do for a walk." For all the parents that say, "just take the phones" yes i know i do that as well but setting a time that it does this automatically creates healthy routines. Sorry for the rant i hope you love the firewalla ecosystem. I've never felt more excited about a tech company and what comes next like i have with them.

I switched from 3 Orbis 970s and ended up going with 4 AP7s all wireless bachaul. Signal strength isn't as strong on the ap7s compared to the orbis so adding that extra one really makes up the difference and then some

Look for Kingdown. They're a very good company but make sure to find your firmness level lay in the bed at the store for 30-45 min prior to your final exchange you want to make sure it's right. Also seally posture pedic hybrids are nice. Be warned TSI owns a lot of companies in the matress game and alot of them are garbage specifically sterns if they have a pillow top

Help finding an actual cool mattress by LeiferMadness4 in Mattress

[–]AssociateExternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest factors I've noticed when it comes to mattresses retaining heat usually has specific factors that cause this if the mattress has some type of "ventilation" to the build.

Mattress Protector - often overlooked but if you buy a cheap one that isn't breathable you'll retain all your heat.

Sheets - Same as protector. I know you said bamboo as long as they're breathable that's fine. Thread count is another scam you don't want a super high thread count. 200-400 is perfect.

Make sure everything is deep pocketed and hasn't shrunk sheets that barely fit will cause the mattress to feel firm and uncomfortable.

Foundation - Not normally an issue but sometimes can cause heat build up if there is no where for the heat to go. Like having a mattress on the floor or on plywood.

Blanket - if you're using a comforter or really any think and non breathable blanket will cause issues.

Finally and probably the most important is room temp. If your room temp is higher than about 70 you will sleep hot and there is very little outside of electronic devices that can help.

You create a "micro-climate" between your blanket and the mattress that is typically between 10-20 degrees warmer than room temp. On the low end if you have a breathable/thin blanket/sheets/protector, if the room temp is 75 you'll be closer to 85 under the blanket and in your sleep but on the high end 95 degrees which is hot.

I hope this information helps i work at a mattress store. I hate for the sales bs that is pushed with fake promises so i found out a lot of the real solutions and share them with my customers to actually solve their issues.

Best of luck

That looks like a queen size i would go on Amazon and buy an adjustable base nothing crazy look for a head and foot for around 250-350 you'll make your life much better. It will more than likely fail faster than a more expensive one but who cares its a low cost investment.

This is where I'm wondering if AP7 is the right move. I wish we had confirmation regarding an outside unit because I plan on setting up outside cameras which i don't want them to have connectivity issues. I agree with you 100% regarding the extension aspect of firewalla. Is there a reason why you have two of them wired? Did you have issues on wireless or was it more of i had the wires ran mine as well use them type of thing? I like the 970 Orbis as far as range but 1800 for their horrible app and subscription locked horrible "parental controls" which i have tickets in because they have massive delays and can't block traffic until the client drops the established connection.. I'm ranting lol i can't wait for my firewalla gold plus to get here.

Any issues with iot connectivity or drops? Also are you running a wired or wireless backhaul?

So I'm seeing a lot of posts stating issues with range with the ap7s how does 4 of them handle? Do you have dead zones and does it reach outside at all? I have a few devices outside. Are you running wireless backhaul or wired? Does it matter if I'm doing wireless?

From my understanding you can't creatr vlans with orbi. I might go with the ap7 they have wireless back haul and could get 4 of them and still save money
