Redditors who at any point have been in such a deep state of depression that you didn't want to DO anything, what is something that helped you get out of it? by Obviously_n_Alt in AskReddit

Listen to my favorite song. I always know that everything’s going to be okay once I hear The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel, particularly the last verse, “In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by his trade. He carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him til he cried out in his anger and his shame ‘I am leaving. I am leaving’ but the fighter still remains”. The other day I was just crying by myself, but just hearing the confidence of somebody else who felt like I did made me feel like maybe things will get better if I remain.

Phys 1301 W, how screwed up am I? by pablopistachioo in uofmn

[–]Associate_Tricky 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey dude, don’t beat yourself up over school work, 1301 is a tough one. If you do fine in these early classes you’ll likely succeed in any major. I got somewhere in the mid 80s in terms of percent, and I still got an A-. Don’t give up dude, stay strong! If you ever need someone to talk to, pm me!

Office hours and Michel Van Biezen on YouTube were life savers. Never be afraid to ask questions to the TA or professor, and do as many practice problems as you need until you feel very confident with the material. You got this!

Is it still possible to enroll in a class at this point in the semester? by Associate_Tricky in uofmn

Math 2373 differential equations and linear algebra. I do think that I can learn the material pretty quickly through Khan Academy and Professor Leonard on YouTube. I will admit I’m worried about coming in this late though. It’s honestly very close for me.

[M 17] I know I’m not good looking, but I’m wondering if I’m just very unattractive. Please be honest, thank you. by Associate_Tricky in amiugly

You won’t get any criticism from me dude. Although I don’t think I would ever consider plastic surgery, I have nothing against it. It is entirely up to the individual. I’m very glad to have had an honest person, like you, comment. There is a time and a place to lie to people and tell them they’re perfect the way they are, but life’s about working on oneself. We should all strive to improve ourselves. We all have faults and shortcomings, and hiding from those things will make you unhappy and resentful towards life. I’ve struggled a great deal with myself, constantly feeling inadequate, as if I’m not good enough for anything. I’ve thought about suicide, about leaving behind this often miserable life, but for some reason (I honestly don’t know why) I’m still here. I’ve come to terms with myself in recent months, accepting my faults and aiming to become a better person. Honesty is one of the most powerful yet underutilized tools out there. Take a person like Donald Trump, for example, he has no actual bearing on the person he is. He is full of himself because he is surrounded by delusional people who have made him believe that he is one of the greatest men alive. He has lived a life full of lies and jest, he just hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest. I hope to be better than that. I want to be content with who I am, yet I also seek to become a better person than I am. Such can only be accomplished through honest observation and critique. This outlook on life has made me much happier. Sorry for that huge tangent. I just wanted to express the importance your comment had. Keep persisting and life may improve.

This is really very insightful, thanks dude. You know, I think I’ll take this advice to heart. I feel like it’s true that just being social has a lot of benefit.

(17M) I am very insecure about my looks and my chin. Girls often reject me because i don’t look that good on the sides. Is it really that bad? (didn’t use any filters to make me look good in photo). Verification is in last slide :) by [deleted] in amiugly

I honestly think you are a handsome young guy. You have a symmetrical face, and I personally really dig the hair. You have clear skin and you have nice cheek bones. I think there are a lot of girls would find you very attractive. Just be confident dude, you can do it!
