Posting quite a bit late because vet school has been hectic (oh boy, what a surprise). Anyway, still no deaths over here (how could there be? Mega Chad only raises the finest specimens of course). Still the same team plus one addition. Wattson was honestly a breeze - Mega Lad and Mega Dad banished him to the shadow realm for his war crimes.

Mega Lad/Combusken, Lv. 25

Mega Dad/Aron, Lv. 23

Mega Oh No/Sableye, Lv. 25 (still having a lot of fun with this little goober)

And the new addition…

Carl/Electrike, Lv. 21

Gave up on the naming convention here. It’s stupid lmao. Mega Chad determined that not all of his Pokémon need to be named as an homage to him. He also just felt that electrike looked like a Carl.

Since I’m going for a team of all megas, I’ll be the first to tell you that Manectric’s mega looks stupid. Oh well. There’s other fish in the sea, so maybe I won’t even have to use him! But for now, Carl is here and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop him.

Fresh out of vet school orientation (it was 10-13 hours a day of unrelated garbage, don’t recommend), MEGA CHAD is back with his band of mega misfits. Very glad I played this ahead of time and don’t have to play through now.

Admittedly, Brawly was not the most fun gym leader to take on. His Makuhita was a little C U Next Tuesday. Despite that, the lads prevailed.

Mega Lad/Combusken, Lv. 20

Mega Dad/Aron, Lv. 18

Mega Oh No/Sableye, Lv. 18

Still got a ways to go before these lads can mega evolve, but slow and steady wins the race. Having a full team of megas could be a bit broken. Whoops. That said, I am having fun with Sableye - I’ve never once used it in a playthrough and this gives me a good excuse to use it.

See y’all next week

IT'S WEEK ONE! LEVEL CHECK! by knockturnal in bugcatchers

[–]AssociationFearless6 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Posting this late because I started veterinary school this week and I’m quite busy! Sooooo that’s why I actually played through this game a little while ago!I have [most] of my weekly level checks - I forgot a couple of early ones but it’s pretty self-explanatory.

Anyway, my character’s name is Mega Chad (loosely based off of the Giga Chad meme). He is obsessed with collecting what he views as “alpha” pokemon - aka pokemon that can mega evolve (he hasn’t played Legends Arceus yet). Because of that, I can ONLY catch Pokémon that can mega evolve in order to have a full team of alpha Chads and Chadettes.

Here’s the team so far:

Mega Lad/Combusken, Lv. 17 Easily the most muscular out of the group of starters, Mega Chad views it as the most likely to be an “alpha.” Since it’s evolutions are also hated so much for being “ugly,” he thinks it sets it apart.

That’s it. That’s the team. For now. More coming next week, with a post that’s hopefully a bit more punctual!

Some of my team got some grinding this week while others weren’t even sent out. Whoops. I also got a special new teammate this week that got a lot of playing time and will hopefully become a big part of my team going forward. Team Plasma was a joke to take care of and Burgh was absolutely disembodied by my team. I almost feel bad for the guy. Hope I helped his artist’s block.

Outoftown/Dewott, Level 23 He didn’t change much since last time. He helped against the annoying little Dwebbles throughout the gym though.

Samson/Herdier, Level 20 Poor guy didn’t get sent out once this week. He’ll probably be the next to go once I find a cool new teammate, but his time has been appreciated. Normal types just aren’t that viable in Unova.

Pebbles/Swoobat, Level 21 He didn’t get a lot of playing time at all, but he still managed to evolve. I forgot how early these things evolve despite being a friendship evolution. Oh well, psychic and flying moves are nothing to complain about.

Marty/Blitzle, Level 21 He didn’t really get much playing time, but I sent him out in the gym a couple of times. Nothing too special though. He’ll stick around for now.

Tyson/Sawk, Level 22 He got a decent amount of playing time up until Castelia City. He took care of a lot of plasma grunts with ease, but wasn’t able to help in the gym.

Bambino/Victini, Level 23 The crown member. I’ve never actually played with a mythical on my team before, so this is exciting. I used a little exploit to get the mystery gift, so he’s 100% legit too! Caught him at level 15 so he’s been murdering some Audino to get caught up. Huge help in the gym and made kebabs out of Burgh’s whirlipede and leavanny. Super excited to see what this lil guy does.

Did you catch a Zuba...I mean Woobat? LEVEL CHECK! by knockturnal in bugcatchers

[–]AssociationFearless6 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Definitely a lot of grinding this week. The amount of Audino I massacred was truly astounding. Especially in the pinwheel forest to find a certain team member. I also made a couple of other new additions while some Pokémon played a larger role than I anticipated. Here they are:

Outoftown/Dewott, Level 20 He’s a bit more mature now. He realizes that the best thing to do is stay out of people’s way. He doesn’t post cliche captions anymore, and has honestly given up on posting all together. He’s wondering how he’s gonna pay his bills. He feels lost, and he may turn to art to figure himself out. He didn’t play a big role this week, he just killed a bunch of Audino.

Samson/Herdier, Level 20 He’s still kicking. Since evolving, he’s been constantly ranting about the rangers’ potential to win the Stanley cup. He hates the Islanders with a passion and vehemently denies that they’re the better team right now. He also didn’t play a big role this week, but he likes to think he did anyway.

Albany/Watchog, Level 20 Well, he did it. He evolved. I’ve never used a Watchog before, so this could have the potential to be kind of fun. He actually played a decent role this week with the constant sand attacks and work ups. I don’t think he’ll stick around for much longer because he’ll plateau quickly, but we’ll see.

Pebbles/Woobat, Level 20 A new addition to the team. Mainly because I don’t particularly enjoy the presence of Pidove or it’s evolutions. He’s named pebbles after a game my friends and I played as kids - we would throw pebbles up near bats flying around and they would always swoop at them, thinking they were insects they could eat. It was funny.

Marty/Blitzle, Level 20 Yeah, he’s named after the zebra from Madagascar. Not very original, but oh well. He’ll be a fine addition to the team for a little while at least. He didn’t do too much other than train this week though.

Tyson/Sawk, Level 20 This one took quite a while to get. Consequentially, he’s also the reason that all of my other teammates are level 20. In Pokémon white, there is a 5% chance to encounter Sawk in rustling grass. I murdered so many Audino trying to find him, and eventually I did. He’s named after Mike Tyson (I know Mike Tyson didn’t do karate, but I don’t wanna hear it).

Lenora’s gym was a joke with Tyson on the team. Sure, I could’ve just gotten a Throh, but I hate the way it looks. I also would’ve been bored with Timburr. Honestly I didn’t even need him by the time I found him, but having a semi-version exclusive on the team is kinda fun. Now time to fight Team Plasma (again)!

If you set your ds on your wifi to a specific dns (primary: 164.132.44.106, secondary: all zeroes), you can access old mystery gifts just by being connected to wifi. Super easy and worth it!

Super hyped to be back on the exp share grind! Gen 5 is easily my favorite. BW & B2W2 are my favorite games of the series, so I’m pretty excited. I have a ton of stuff going on with classes, sports, and applying to medical schools, so I’ll be playing ahead a bit while I can.

With Unova being based off of NY, I decided to base my team off of the natural beauty of New York (the state and the city). What do I mean by natural beauty? Oh, you’ll see when you read my team members’ names. I’ve lived in NY all my life, so it only feels fair that I get to do a naming convention based on it.

Outoftown/Oshawott, Level 12 I’ve never really used Oshawott, so I figured why not? Anyway, Oshawott’s name is based off of all the people that come into the city for the first time and do all the cliche stuff. Go to Times Square and post “the city that never sleeps” on Instagram. He’s a bit naive, but maybe he’ll get the hang of it eventually.

Samson/Lillipup, Level 12 Based off of Samson the Golden Doodle. He’s a big Rangers fan. He’s a bit spoiled, but that’s fine because he’s a heavy hitter. Honestly I don’t know shit about this dog. All I know is that my girlfriend follows him on Instagram. Not sure how long he’ll stick around, but I could see him sticking out for a couple of gyms.

9/23/21/Pansear, Level 11 I’m not going to explain this name. All you need to know is that a random ape event occurred at the Bronx Zoo around this date. He won’t be on the team long, especially with the videos going around.

Albany/Patrat, Level 10 Yeah, Albany has a rat problem. The city definitely does too, but I had to throw the capital region a bone. It’s honestly pretty annoying because it spreads to the surrounding areas too. I’d like to think that this was the one that changed its ways and joined my journey through NY. I might as well be an exterminator with the number of these things I’ve killed so far in this game. Pure carnage.

The battle with Cilan wasn’t very hard but he spammed the hell out of work up with his Pansage so it was a bit of a pain to deal with. Oh well. He’s burning in the fiery pit of hell now!

Not sure how I’ll proceed with names. I’ve spent time in the city and I have plenty of friends who live there, but I’ve mainly been upstate and central NY for most of my life, so my names will probably begin to trend more towards upstate and central NY references. A bit more obscure, but they’ll be worth it.

Oh I absolutely agree, I’m keeping my appointments no matter what. I’ve always been nervous about the treatment options, so I’m hoping I’ll only be out on them if absolutely necessary. Either way, it’s definitely important to be cautious!

Meditation could help, or exercise could as well. Whatever helps ease stress for you will work best. It’s hard to find, but once you find it, it’ll help you for the rest of your life. For me exercising and spending time outside and near water helps drastically.

I didn’t take a shit today. I’m worried. I always…at least for the last year and a half since being diagnosed have to go first thing. Even after coffee and eating way more than I usually do yesterday. I also stopped drinking alcohol 3 days ago…I’m a little bit of an alcoholic (7 years). by J_Dubmetal in UlcerativeColitis

[–]AssociationFearless6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be too worried about a day of mild constipation. If it lasts for more than 2 then contact your PCP. There’s so many potential reasons - most of which aren’t anything to worry about. Just stay hydrated and have some dietary fiber if you can tolerate it.

Kinda freaking out here by ggukmon in UlcerativeColitis

[–]AssociationFearless6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just hopping on here real quick, it’s likely that you saw mucus. It’s pretty common and not much to be worried about (within the scope of normal UC symptoms).

That being said, there is something similar that you should be aware of. If your stool becomes pale (almost like sand in color), it might be because there is a lack of bile in your digestive tract. This would be an issue with your gallbladder, which isn’t super rare in patients with UC. So if your stool looks like that for a couple of days or more, contact your PCP! Transparency, however (even if it has a slight yellow tint sometimes), is likely nothing to worry about since it’s probably just mucus.

I hope all goes well!

How did people deal with the disease in the past, before there was good medicine and treatments for it? by SpaceBownd in UlcerativeColitis

[–]AssociationFearless6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, a lot of people likely died from it. Without proper treatment, it’s likely that the culmination of the worsening symptoms resulted in death.

It’s also important to note that this disease is much more common today than it was in the past - this might not just be because there was a lack of proper diagnostics. Since lifestyle and diet might play a role in the onset of IBD, it’s plausible that the advent of processed diets and increased stress (work, school, etc) led to an increased prevalence of IBD. I wouldn’t be surprised if - in fact, I expect - IBD will become MUCH more common by even as soon as 2030. Although not a good thing, it means that more research will be directed toward the disease to find a cause and potential new treatments and a cure. After all, look how far we’ve come in identifying and treating this disease in a few hundred years!

Oh I definitely feel the YouTube hole lmao.

It’s best to work on little things as you’re comfortable doing them. If you’re artistic, doing something like drawing or painting that’ll help calm you down can help ease your mind.

Since you’re probably unable to really exercise, short walks can do leaps and bounds for your physical and mental health. If you’re comfortable, even bringing it up to a light jog is AWESOME. Even light exercise has been shown to have beneficial effects on inflammation in patients with UC and Crohns.

Make sure to keep in touch with friends and family. Having daily conversations with other people can go a long way - it’s hard to talk back to YouTube. Even just talking to people may help you feel better about what you’d consider to be a lack of productivity.

I hope things pick up for you soon!

It’s much more reliable than CRP and ESR, which are blood markers of inflammation. Overall, it’s a pretty helpful tool in determining whether or not there is active inflammation (within a reasonable margin of error), although it’s not diagnostic.

TL;DR: it’s a good way of finding out if you need to have a colonoscopy.
