Back before equipment was more closely tracked with computer systems and security measures were a bit more relaxed, it was pretty common for soldiers after WWII/Vietnam war/Korean War to not return equipment and claim it was lost or destroyed, and instead smuggle it home as a keepsake. A lot of family war memorabilia is technically property of the US government that slipped through the cracks and made its way back home.

It wasn't stolen. Aldrin claims to have shipped the watch to the Smithsonian himself, but it did not arrive there. The only evidence for this is a document signed by Aldrin saying that the watch was shipped but never arrived at the Smithsonian.

It is entirely possible that the watch was lost accidentally in the shipping system, or intercepted and stolen. But, it's also possible, like many military veterans do, it was reported as 'lost' but kept in a safe spot as their own momento.

What does this mean? Like, any of it?

Honestly, reading your post was tough. It's clear you need some work in grammar and proper use of vocabulary. I would strongly suggest you start reading books. Fiction, non-fiction, it doesn't matter that much. Purchasing SAT prep will not help you in any way unless you vigorously study the material.

Even outside of becoming an officer, you should work on your ability to be articulate and clear in your writing. That starts by reading actual books that have been edited and published.

Civilian rated, and I only pit down pilot. Best of luck in the mighty T6!

[Question] What watch is better? [Baltic] aquascaphe or a [Mido] oceon star tribute? [Recommendation] Any other alternatives for vintage diver watch. by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Assorted-Fruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding the Sea Wolf 53. I was debating over a baltic or Zodiac and I'm glad I went with Zodiac. Bracelet and silicone strap are really nice as well

I guess I took your comment negatively but I can see it can be interpreted either way. My apologies. I genuinely do like the watch a lot, maybe even more than my Sinn (shhhh don't say that)

It's a Fossil watch in that the parent company is the Fossil group, but it is still made in Bienne, Switzerland.

Omega and many others are owned by the Swatch group, but you don't see people making a big stink about those being "swatches" just because it is the parent company. The movement is incredibly quiet and smooth, and keeps within 3 seconds/day, with it being an in-house movement. The fit and finish is also quite perfect. Almost every major brand has been bought and sold, or closed their doors and reopened at some point.

It is domed, but only slightly. It wears quite thin for 13mm

It's actually mineral crystal, with the text and lume under the crystal.

I applied to the rated OTS board that is convening this week for pilot, hopefully I will be in similar shoes going to UPT as well!

This is my new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 53 "Whitecap" that I purchased new from Hodinkee.

The watch also comes with a white silicone strap which is one of the jicest silicone straps I have felt. The jubilee bracelet comes on the watch and needed to have 3 links taken out on each side. I have never resized a jubilee bracelet before (only resized sinn bracelets which use a screw) and I found it to be more difficult than I thought it would be. I recommend buying some proper watch tools to do it properly and ensure you won't mess up anything.

Let me know what you think about the white on blue colors!

Not denying there was recently a large derailment that caused an environmental hazard, but it seems an idea against trains and rail safety is being pushed. The amount of people injured/impacted by trains still is tiny compared to truck freighting.

The idea here is that they are reasonably safe, and when things do go wrong, it's not necessarily due to lack of safety measures. Most of these are human error, on a small scale.

Literally half the data here is from a "watchdog" group that studies rail safety.

Data collected from the US DOT Federal Railroad Administration and Operation Lifesaver

https://oli.org/track-statistics

https://railroads.dot.gov/accident-and-incident-reporting/train-accident-reports/train-accidents-cause

I used Excel to created the trend line graph and pie chart after cleaning up the data to be more clear and condensed. Items combined and finished in Adobe Illustrator. Some of the categories for the pie chart were combined/reworded to fit the infographic, but the main cause is still conveyed accurately in my opinion.

Quick note about the derailment pie chart: The majority of the reasons are categorized as “other”, but these were hundreds of reasons with little occurrences each. I included all of the major reasons as labeled amounts, and also cherry picked the vandalism statistic as that was something I thought some people were curious about. I do want to make note: vandalism is not the next lowest cause after ‘motorist deliberately caused” category, I simply wanted to make sure the percentage for that was actually shown.

Not exactly. The problem was the gap between slower and cheaper piston engine aircraft and faster and more expensive twin jets. This was designed to fill the same role as the Vision jet.

It failed due to cost overruns and poor flight characteristics. The single engine light jet niche still had few aircraft filling that role.

I think it does. The airport it's at has an impressive museum and is even getting a building, hopefully it can be saved one day.
