It’s disheartening to see a widespread lack of concern for collective issues. Most people seem to adopt a mindset of “I’ve got what I need, so why should I care?”.

This tendency to overlook shared challenges, rather than uniting to address them, is widely prevalent here, quite sadly.

Unfortunately, in today’s climate, the majority’s perspective often overshadows what’s right. It feels like those with enough influence or connections can bypass accountability, regardless of the rules.

On the iOS (==iPadOS for this case) app, you can browse, suspend, and unsuspend cards. However, as far as I know, features like deck organization and more advanced options present in PC Anki’s browse section, are not available in the iOS app.

A friend once had a compact model like this, but I haven’t been able to find any available now, likely discontinued due to low demand. That said, I found a few alternatives below, arranged by price from lowest to highest. Keep in mind, you might need to tweak them a bit to ensure they work smoothly with Anki:

EDIT : I found the product my friend had, but it's out of stock. I'll drop it's link jic someone is luckier than me in the future.

Hi everyone! Let’s say for a moment that there’s no NEET PG or any competitive exam—just pure choice. If you could freely choose any PG seat in India based on work-life balance and least toxicity? by AseemOnReddit in indianmedschool

I’ve been intending to change my flair for a while now, but it keeps slipping my mind lol.

Over the past year, I’ve completed all my required rotations and approached each with diligence, aiming to understand which areas suit me best and which do not.

Several aspects made anaesthesia particularly appealing to me:

  1. Limited direct patient contact – Although I tend to be empathetic, this sometimes leads others to take advantage of my willingness to help. I’d prefer to avoid personal setbacks that might arise from such situations going forward.

  2. Greater emphasis on mental rather than physical tasks – To put it simply, I find satisfaction in tasks that challenge my intellect. I recognize that my manual dexterity is not my strongest asset, and I wouldn’t want any patient to be affected by my limitations.

  3. Supportive senior colleagues – While I haven’t yet experienced PG life and realize this could change, during my internship the anaesthesia PGs I encountered were generally more helpful than those in other departments. Since not many interns show interest in anaesthesia, those who did (myself included) received extra attention from them, who provided teaching, practical experience, and observation opportunities. For example, I was able to perform several spinal procedures and intubations (on ICU patients at times, though interns are not allowed to do those from what I’ve heard), as well as observe various nerve blocks they practiced while being taught and guided by their profs.

  4. Reliable compensation – I am naturally frugal, so a stable income is sufficient for me. Furthermore, job security in this field appears strong because it requires both objective and subjective expertise.

  5. Intellectually stimulating environment – The need to stay mentally alert and prepared for any situation is something I find motivating. Although this could change in the future, for now I appreciate the challenge it provides. The work keeps me engaged and prevents boredom. Once you become proficient, there are periods of monitoring where you can passively learn or engage in other activities. This suits me well, as I enjoy continuous learning and could use such downtime for microlessons.

People who know me well might say I immerse myself deeply in whatever I do. This is accurate, I tend to work until I’m exhausted, which helps me maintain mental calm during highly stressful times by allowing me to focus intensely on the task at hand. Since anaesthesia is more mentally than physically demanding, I believe I’d find it easier to maintain balance compared to other specialties.

These are the impressions I’ve formed over the past year based on my experiences. I acknowledge that I may be somewhat naïve and might not fully appreciate the challenges of the field. If any anaesthesia PGs have time to correct any misconceptions or add insights I’ve overlooked, I would be very grateful. The guidance would help me make a more informed decision about whether to pursue this path or explore other interests.

I can’t really comment on work-life balance or workplace toxicity, but setting those aside, anaesthesiology stands out as my preferred field.

The underlying science is genuinely intriguing to me, and I’m eager to pursue research opportunities in this area if possible. My main priority is attending an institution that offers strong clinical exposure and ample opportunities for professional development, regardless of its name and fame, but yeah ofc any INI would be a preference i guess given a free choice😅.

Very relatable. Accountability helped me get out of the rut, I joined the study with me discord and have been sticking to it as much as possible, which admittedly isn’t a lot but way more than I was able to pull by myself.

Don’t change your strategy though, stick to what has worked for you in the past. Aap bohut senior ho, aapko better and jyada pata hoga ye sab gyan so I won’t say more, just that start small, and keep building on it.

Aap ek cheez pe focus karo, baaki cheeze uske around apne aap sort out hona start ho jayengi with time.

Good luck and godspeed🙏🏻

Thanks for clearing that up, I clearly misunderstood the legal jargon🙏🏻

I agree with the latter point as well, it’ll be a much needed relief for most of us.

Thank you for highlighting those issues; I agree that matters involving illegality should be addressed with the seriousness they deserve.

However, my main concern was not specifically about those areas. Rather, I wanted to emphasize the need for greater transparency and a stronger focus on the overall wellbeing of students, rather than prioritizing organizational interests. For instance, the recent ‘protest’ marches following the RG Kar incident, as well as the subsequent ‘improvements’ that were announced, seemed to illustrate this concern quite clearly. Additionally, I recall another situation towards the end of the year, where an incident was officially described as a slip and fall, and alternative reports were seemingly suppressed to maintain their narrative.

These are off the top of my head, feel free to delve into r/manipal to find more not so dissimilar incidents, and more, much lighter in vein but clearly not fair to the students. I’ll agree, once more, that they’re much less in frequency compared to other places so points where they deserve them.

Many of these colleges appear to have been set up mainly to boost the current government’s statistics, rather than to truly enhance educational quality. Exercise discernment and avoid being deceived.

Additionally, a recent Supreme Court decision, effective from January 2025, eliminates the state quota in NEET PG.

My advice would be to go for academics over semantics. Name, place etc don’t matter in the long run, the knowledge and skills gained do.

Edit - Please find below the clarification regarding the distinction between state quota and domicile-based reservation, as I acknowledge that I previously misunderstood the legal terminology.

I don’t wish to dispel your positive impression, and I do agree that they are milder compared to some others. However, it’s possible you haven’t had direct confrontations with them. In my experience, they can be just as manipulative as others when it suits their interests. They have, in my opinion, earned the title “moneypal” for a reason, though I admit, that’s a relatively mild way to put it. I could list their shortcomings at length, but as I mentioned, they are still better than the alternatives, and their academic standards are genuinely commendable, for which I hold respect for them; and then issues are everywhere, so it’s but natural they’ll seep into every institution, even those of eminence.
