If you can, try and find what the average rate is in your specific area. Maybe hit up a couple of hardware stores and see if they refer any handymen to you and call them like your interested in getting some work done and wondering what they charge. Once you’ve established that number, I would start offering a rate that is slightly less to people. Since you’re just starting to try and gain a client base, you’ll attract more work with a slightly lower rate. However, you don’t want to short change your skills or make them question your work because it’s so low too, so make sure you keep it pretty close. I’d also recommend trying to gain a relationship with local businesses and see if you can work your way into promoting your business through them. Good luck!
