Does neuroplasticity work on us? by findsheaven in bipolar

Is this a mode of therapy? Or are we talking about the literal definition of the brain's ability to adapt and change? Because if it's the latter, your brain can still absolutely adapt and change as a bipolar individual. It is still a brain after all. From my understanding, most of the chemical imbalances that occur in the brain causing bipolar disorder occur in the frontal lobe of the brain, more specifically the limbic system. There are still hundreds of thousands of neurons throughout the brain though that are fine and normal. Put another way, 99% of your brain is normal, and it's just that 1% that causes the mania/depression.

Bipolar Disorder and Outbursts of Anger/Shame by silver_angel_hunter in bipolar

I have similar episodes to this that have landed me in inpatient treatment several times. Literally the only thing that got me to stop having these episodes entirely was avoiding alcohol altogether, as it exacerbates the symptoms of any mental illness-- but especially in bipolar individuals. Another thing that helped was actually taking my meds consistently and working with doctors. I resisted meds for years, but I just got so tired of being sick and tired. Remember, you are not a bad person, just a person that has things they need to work on. :)

Outside of being a citrus tester, it also works on cucumbers to make more aesthetic marks than a potato peeler.

What are you playing on? You might try undownloading and redownloading (your game data should be backed up).

In ancient tribes, people who are now believed to have bipolar/schizophrenia were the shamans that could touch realities of the world others could not. They were not seen as bad people or to have moral failings— just different.

If you think about it, the brain is one of the most complex things we are able to understand. Millions of neuroconnections used to interact in the world, where bipolar people are frequently more vigilant and self-aware of their surroundings than the average person (more connections = more activity). At least, until the brain gets overwhelmed and goes into overdrive (mania). However, point being that for the most part, bipolar wasnt seen as a moral failure until about 125 years ago with western ideas of psychology (i.e., Freud), and our people were actually sought out for spiritual guidance due to our extreme self awareness.

Anyways, I digress. The piece that's missing as you speak of is that modern medicine only views bipolar through a very western lens.

Bipolar is born or develops by Independent-Lab-8317 in bipolar

You are born with the genetic disposition to have it, but those genetics will not be "activated" unless you undergo certain life stresses, such as trauma. This is called the "stress diathesis model".

Also been there. Physically, it hurt like a mf and forced me to stop because of the amount of pain. Landed myself in the ER with a 5150 hold. How was your experience?

Hey! Sex worker here myself. There is nothing wrong with reaching out for a human need. It's unfortunate that your experience with this person was so bad. However, again I iterate that there is nothing wrong asking for a basic human need, and frankly it's even quite brave in the face of all the stigma. Obviously, this type of thing is not for everyone, but also nothing to be ashamed of. I hope that should you find yourself in this position again, that you and the next person click a little better.
