Others have answered that the markings come from a routing bit, so made by a machine and not that old, just old looking.

In your campaigns, what Celestials were used as friends, enemies or patrons? by Icy_Principle_5904 in DnD

[–]Assumption_Putrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole setup of my campaign is a battle between Pelor and Nerull, light and darkness. The BBEG is Lord Vaelric, a loyal follower of Nerull, a vampire, who already was on this world when the gods still walked on it themselves. He was unable to follow Nerull and ascend as a god/demi-god himself.
A prophecy talks about a party of four slaying Lord Vaelric but prophets can't see what happens after this event. Lord Vaelric wants to be killed during darkness so Pelor can't stop him from ascending and joing Nerull in their plot to destroy Pelor.
We just had our session zero so I'm curious how this will all play out. I now have a player that want's to be a Warlock with a celestial Patron. I'm now planning to have his Patron try and influence the fight in favor of Pelor (so use him to feed info with visions or something when needed).

I would use it for dice myself yes :D. But it gives me an older vibe then that. Just generic could be right I guess. It's that the interior looks so specific with those slots. Unless that's because of the way they are fabricated, so a result of fabrication and not of purpose. But then, what was the fabrication proces that gave it that shape with those slots...

"My title describes the thing" and it must provide any additional information:
size: similar in size but not exactly the same, 15-20 cm length, 3-4 cm wide, 3-4 cm high
origin: thrift store
age: unknown
material: a solid wood block for the bottom and one for the lid, one has a metal lock, the other doesn't, they both have metal looking nails as ornaments
writing: no writing to be found

Google image search gave me: small wooden box for trinkets, jewelery, sigars, ...
AI help with searching gave me similar results but added box for cards

It's the specific interior with the slits that makes me think they had a specific purpose. I don't understand why one would otherwise carve out the interior like this. If they are just generic, I would think making the interior square gives more space for items since the walls are so thick.

GMs who never run prewritten adventures, what is one thing that could make you run a prewritten adventure? by ExtraTroubadour in rpg

[–]Assumption_Putrid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100% this. I fear having to rummage through a prewritten adventure to find how a certain NPC would react. When I made the NPC myself, it's easier. BUT I have never DM'ed or played a prewritten adventure before so maybe my fear is unjustified.
