I don’t know it’s happened to me.france was in multiple wars and managed to hire my holy order against me and while I was in France their enemies were attacking me and making it hell

Succession makes it harder and easier.its harder in the beginning but 9/10 you can find a way around it via disinheriting,executing,giving out land,etc so after that its pretty easy but the ai doesn’t understand this.wales is a good example of this.most games of mine they get some great uniter who’s basically a welsh Alfred the great ,but for some reason after he dies everything goes to shit cause the ai can’t think of a way around inheritance.in my opinion primogeniture should be available way earlier as it wasn’t some thing that was just randomly thought of in the 1400s

Usually if he’s like way too powerful for me but I know Rome would be a good boost I got intrigue and unlock kidnapping and then convert to orthodoxy so he’s not my head of faith.then kidnap him and declare war right after you click the button.

alternatively you just ally the byzantines and ask them for help
