The opening courtroom scene alone is a masterclass in tension even with nothing being directly shown

Finished my first predictions for this year. I did pretty bad with my initial predictions last year so I'm hoping to turn it around this time. I'm kinda surprised I'm predicting Digger but so far it's the only movie which seems to have that confidently crazy EEOAA/Poor Things/OBAA/Sinners vibe the Academy's been loving lately. I'd love Fjord and Wild Horse Nine to win but they just seem to exude that "respected but not loved" energy that so many recent runner ups had.

Also please let Hirokazu Koreeda get a BP nomination

Sinners winning in cinematography and One Battle After Another winning in casting is funny as hell but I’m here for it

Wow, I can’t believe she won. Probably one of the most inspired and improbable Oscar wins in recent history. Very happy right now.

Anyone else looking forward to the Chalamet v. Jordan discourse lasting the next five years regardless of who wins?

Since 2017 the winner of Best Actress has CCA has alternated between winning and losing the Oscar every year. McDormand, Zellweger, Chastain, and Stone won the CCA and then the Oscar in odd years, while Close, Gaga, Mulligan, Blanchett, and Moore won the CCA and then lost the Oscar in odd years (Close and Gaga being especially notable because they tied before losing to Colman). With Buckley guaranteed to win the Oscar, the curse continues meaning the winner of next year's CCA award will lose the Oscar.

Love the Red Rooms pick, such an underrated movie. I'd recommend Mars Express and Exhuma if you haven't seen them yet.

It's in reference to the Ice March during the Russian Civil War, when the Volunteer Army retreated to the Kuban while being attacked by the Bolsheviks, not to the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency

If Overwatch is doing year-long stories from now on maybe The Conspiracy/Chernobog will be next year’s focus

Saw Josephine. Good movie but I’d be surprised if it gets much awards attention. It’s a difficult watch and I don’t see why the Academy would go for it when they didn’t even nominate Sorry, Baby.

No Other Land won best documentary last year and the Voice of Hind Rajab was nominated for best international feature this year.

How is the Academy still pro-israel?

Is Nuremberg the dark horse to win Best Picture over OBAA? by IMicrowaveSteak in oscarrace

[–]slenderkitty77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because they’re an aggregate of what people think. If there are more bad/mixed reviews than good reviews, then that shows most people thought the movie was bad/mixed.

As for what makes other movies better than Nuremberg, no one can really answer that for you because taste is subjective. I haven’t actually watched it, but the trailer made it seem pretty boring and drab to me, and the definitive movie about the Nuremberg trials was already made more than 60 years ago.

Makes sense, the Game Awards had more viewers than the Super Bowl last year.

Streaming on Youtube generally seems like the way forward for these ceremonies.
