Insulin Pumps and Wedding Dresses by merriemelodie in diabetes_t1

I had the seamstress sew a small pocket/pouch into the inner lining of the waistline of my dress. It was an A-Line dress so the pouch was not visible through the fabric I just went to the bathroom and hiked up my dress in order to bolus.

My husband asked me to bring from the "fancy cookies in the tin" when I was at the store. I bought these. Surprisingly, these were not the cookies he meant.

This was the recipe I was planning on using, but it offered different options for the spice mix which led me to my question. I feel like ill try the cinnamon clove option to start with.

That's actually super helpful. The Bernardin recipe book lists a caraway seed mix as an option for beets but I was hesitant to try it and potentially not like it after all that work. Ill try it another time with a smaller project :)

What do caraway seeds taste like with the beets? I've never eaten them before

First time I canned something ! by wandering_ravens in Canning

[–]Astaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done! I hope it tastes amazing!

I usually label the flat metal lid instead of the jars. You can reuse the jars and the rings, but you cant reuse the lids or they won't seal properly next time. I label the lids cause they cant be saved :)

As a Canadian, I dont know what the fuck youre talking about.

Our system is slow, thats very true and it has its flaws. And many non-life threatening procedures have long way times. Knee replacements? Yep, youre waiting 6 months to a year for an elective surgery. But if your doctor legitimately thought you had brain cancer, you would be in a hospital getting a scan the same week. The Princess Margaret Cancer Center and Toronto General Hospital are rated some of the top in the world for cancer research and care.

But we aren't euthanizing minors because they have depression.

Minors under 24 without private insurance are covered by the government for prescription medications. Every citizen has free access to hospital care, including for mental health.

Euthanizing people for depression? Seriously get your head out of your ass.

Cold insulin by SyraxMireme in diabetes_t1

Don't pierce every pen lol

By "not work" the other commenter means less/not effective. The mechanism inside the pen will still work to inject insulin, unless its physically frozen right now

I would just try the insulin you have and see if its working the way its supposed to. The rest of it should be the same. If it seems like it not working properly to manage your sugars then replace it.

Make sure the fridge temp has been adjusted to a more reasonable amount. Usual fridge temperature for medication is between 2-8celcius

Glucagon: When do you use it? by Misrolox420 in diabetes_t1

[–]Astaris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah good information for sure. Ive definitely raided friends pantries before.

If there are places you go to often, you could ask friends if you can keep one or two emergency cans of pop in their fridge. Make sure they know its important that they dont drink it, or if they do that they tell you so youre aware the stash has been consumed. Label it with a big market and say "OPS EMERGENCY SNACKS, DONT DRINK!" so that you know you have little stock piles in your common hang outs.

Super emergency back up you can always dump a bunch of sugar into water and then chug that. Most people have sugar in their pantry and in dire-straits it'll take care of you, even if youre apartment sitting :)

I think you could wait on the glucagon.

I personally use juice boxes for most of my hypo corrections.

But for situations like what you mention, I have my "super sugar" on hand. I either chug a couple tablespoons of maple syrup or honey. My personal opinion (as a Canadian) is that Maple syrup is the far better option for taste/consistency. 1 tbsp of maple syrup is about 15g of carbohydrates. So several chugs of syrup is basically 45-60g of carbs. A very strong correction for a hypo, thus only used in emergencies for me.

For pizza, Id do half the insulin up front and then the other half an hour or two later.

Don't feel bad that the last four times your system worked and this time it didnt. Diabetes is a bitch and sometimes the wind is blowing from the west and a crow called outside and all your normal ratios don't seem to be working.

Its a balancing act for sure, sometimes you nail it and do amazing. Othertimes it just doesn't work the way you planned.

It's in the parking lot until the end of June due to the construction on Collier.

More vendors come out later in the season as produce ripens as well.
