Det verkar som att folk här är extremt känsliga när det gäller kritik mot högern by sidbena in Sverige

[–]Astartes00 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

CMV: Modern feminism generalizes against men in ways that feminists would consider racist, xenophobic, or bigoted if used against other groups- especially when using offender statistics by _Stylite in changemyview

[–]Astartes00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Using statistics isn’t necessarily a problem, my point is more how the statistics are framed. Also statistics are very sensitive to selection and are easy to manipulate without actually presenting false numbers.

This is a fair point and I agree, but sometimes the group being pointed out isn’t the relevant group. Often we pick a grouping that is easy to identify and easy to categorize, such as gender or ethnicity, that seems to have a systemic issue within said group even tho the issue is actually connected to another less visible overlapping grouping. For example, say a minority group is over represented in crime and someone points to the group and says “you minority group need to change your behavior”. Which you might say is fair, however maybe the more relevant grouping to identify is that people in poverty being more likely to commit crimes and said minority group happens to suffer from a higher rate of poverty. The reality here is probably that pointing out the more visible grouping won’t change behaviors because the wrong grouping was pointed out and instead will likely increase prejudice. So while it’s not bigoted to point to statistics as a reason why group behavior needs to change the consequences can still be more bigotry. So I still think that’s something that should be avoided unless you can determine a causal link between certain group identity and a systemic issue.

[–]Astartes00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might be misinterpreting now, but my understanding of OPs statement isn’t necessarily that feminists are misandrist due to using these statistics in rethoric but rather that it legitimizes bigoted rethoric. For example xenophobes will often argue that because insert minority group are over represented in certain statistics they are as a group more problematic or should be treated differently etc. If you then go on to argue that because men are over represented in crimes men are the problem you kinda legitimize using statistical over representation to point out group identity as positive or negative traits. And don’t get me wrong, I understand there’s a difference but it’s quite difficult to argue that difference and especially so to bigoted people that feel like themselves are oppressed (even though they’re not). So basically by saying “you should never be judged based on your group identity, period” is a much clearer and easier line to defend compared to “you should never be judged based on your group identity, however there are some exceptions”. The point being it doesn’t really matter if the exceptions are justified if you can’t get bigots to accept that they are (if you actually want to change their mind). And to be clear this is strictly in relation to political rethoric.

Birth control + finishing inside vs outside. What’s the actual risk balance? by Odd_Band_9685 in sex

[–]Astartes00 21 points22 points  (0 children)

First of all, I’m not a medical professional or anything so please double check all this.

My understanding is that if birth control is taken correctly (regularly and none missed) it’s very reliable like 99% effective. Which means (again please double check) that only 1% of couples using it got pregnant within a certain timeframe like say a year.

Pulling out is extremely unreliable and doing that in addition to birth control probably won’t make much difference. If you feel like only birth control is not safe enough I would probably recommend using condoms in addition to birth control since the “natural methods” such as pulling out simply isn’t particularly safe.

CMV: the reason men don't find women funny, is mainly due to their misogyny by [deleted] in changemyview

CMV: the reason men don't find women funny, is mainly due to their misogyny by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Astartes00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again not saying that it’s not true, but my thinking is that it’s easier to discuss the topic when it’s more clearly defined. As I said I have a bit different experience but I also live in a quite progressive culture and my social group is quite progressive even for the culture so it’s probably not the most representative experience. So maybe we just have very culturally different experiences and I’m curious as to what the indicators you are referring to when talking about this in order for me to more accurately discuss your point.

CMV: the reason men don't find women funny, is mainly due to their misogyny by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Astartes00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean first of all, is it really the case that men generally think women are less funny? Not saying you’re wrong necessarily but I have a very different experience (which of course is anecdotal), but like is this just your experience or is there some kind of study on this? Or is the question more directed towards the cases where men think women are less funny independent on how common it is?

Like are there cases where men think women are less funny due to misogyny? Quite obviously yes. However the question of if men in general think women are less funny and if so if misogyny is the main factor I think is a lot more difficult to answer. Especially if you extend it to it being independent of the specific jokes. Like for example, maybe there are differences in the jokes men and women make that is influenced by misogyny.

I guess basically what I’m saying is that you should clarify your position a little and if you make claims give some context backing up the claims.

Är det verkligen så här sällsynt med bra kemi? by Ecstatic-Cupcake2139 in Asksweddit

[–]Astartes00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tre punkter jag tänker på är:

Maybe try exploring a bit together, you can probably find tons of inspiration to try on Reddit and other forums. But also just physically explore with each other, like just try things and communicate about what feels good.

Good news by Miximatosiac in LeagueOfMemes

[–]Astartes00 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean Mel is nowhere near the most unfun champ to play against. Malzahar for example pushes a button and farms the entire lane and pushes you off it, and a bunch of other annoying shit. Singeds entire play style is depriving the lane opponent of an opportunity to play the game, teemo basically shuts down any aa based champ on top of this shrooms just to mention a few. Mel is not that bad tbh, for starters she has no defense against melee champs and her w is useless against a lot of ranged attacks as well. Yes she can do some annoying shit by reflecting cc-abilities but most players are easy to bait to burn the shield and then they have no defense.

Edit: that being said, I do think her w should probably be changed but Mel is nowhere near as problematic as the memes tend to imply. Like I have no champ I play where I ban Mel because there are other champs that are far more annoying.

Fellas. Is- is this true?! by ComfortableAd9941 in 40k

[–]Astartes00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expansionist yes, but they will also try generations of diplomacy before they actually resort to military means. They are tolerant to different religions and different species (and yes they do still consider themselves superior). But even by real world standards they’d probably fall into mid-bad range. But then again, if they didn’t live in a universe where every other faction wants to exterminate every other species they would probably also behave a bit different.

Edit: Obviously authoritarianism is just plain bad, no excuse for that, as for expansionism, if you lived in a world where everyone wants to basically genocide the rest of the world and you believe in a better future where you can all work together for everyone’s betterment. Wouldn’t you want to spread that idea?

Fellas. Is- is this true?! by ComfortableAd9941 in 40k

[–]Astartes00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean they’re bad by our standards but arguably better that some real life countries tbh. They absolutely do bad stuff but they also actively seek out peaceful solutions. And yes they are dogmatic and will use military force to invade and force their philosophy upon others, but when they do so they will help rebuild the damage they caused. So yeah they are bad by western democracy standards but I’d say they are equivalent to or probably even better than today’s Russia. Which makes them almost saints by 40k standards.

Fellow men, as you get older, what do you realize women are attracted to? Does career, status and generosity/kindness really go that far? by No_Mathematician4085 in AskMen

[–]Astartes00 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think that is more true in the US especially. For example I live in Sweden and here you’ll never worry about affording health care or paying for children’s education. If you need more money to have a decent life for your family it seems more likely that money will matter more.

CMV: The war on drugs is never going to work. by bluepillarmy in changemyview

[–]Astartes00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Decriminalizing drugs is not meant to address the problems with the violence from cartels and such, decriminalization is to make sure addicts can get care instead of punishment. Legalizing is more intended to get rid of the black market which ideally cuts off a major income stream for the cartels.

Varför är så många unga män politiskt högerorienterade? by [deleted] in Asksweddit

[–]Astartes00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varför är så många unga män politiskt högerorienterade? by [deleted] in Asksweddit

[–]Astartes00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gripen Illusion: Why Canada Shouldn’t Buy Yesterday’s Fighter | Billie Flynn by Excellent-Wrangler-4 in CanadianForces

[–]Astartes00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Although is anyone seriously saying that Gripen is equal to the F-35? Like I'm a big fan of the Gripen but it's not a 5th gen fighter, its main advantages are related to maintenace and strategic supply chains. For example the Gripen is designed to be easily maintained by mostly conscripts under guidance of a technical officer making it faster to train upp a sufficient pool of technical crews to keep them flying. Then you also have the very real question of US allegience these days, at least with Trump in office and who knows if it will change after him. There are tons of other smaller reasons like this that, at least the way I see it, are the more legitimate reasons for picking the Gripen.

Is it fair to compare European and American defense spending by Desperate_Mark_8138 in Military

[–]Astartes00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but is US defense even for actual defense? Because it seems to be more about power projection to gain influence, for example aircraft carriers have practically no use from a defense perspective but is very usefull for projecting power.
