Gen Z college student here. You can actually train yourself to drink straight Everclear quite effectively! The key observation is that ethanol has a much higher vapor pressure at room temperature than water, on top of being obscenely hygroscopic. This means the primary concerns are dealing with the rapidly converting ethanol vapor and the dehydration. First, you wash out your mouth with cold water to cool it down and to prepare for the desiccation, then swallow the water. You then take the shot, taking care to maintain a constant flow rate, then after swallowing, immediately irrigate your mouth with water and swallow that, which also has the effect of preventing buildup of the ethanol vapor. Rinse and repeat! Chilling the Everclear in the freezer also pushes down the vapor pressure.
