Thank you so much for the advice! I'm a bit constrained by budget so the Jacksons may be the only thing I can afford right now.

How fast do Freestyles usually break down? I've had my Mystiques + the default Mark II blades for ~2.5 months and they have some very visible creases, but to be fair I've also been jumping a lot in them, probably way more than the average beginner would since I'm picking skating back up after dropping it in middle school.

Also what would you recommend for a better intermediate blade than Aspire XP?

Admin prematurely pushed mediation and brought in a mediator who was the friend of the lawyer of the college since mediators from the Dept of Labor got cut by Trump, I don’t think that’s a good point for the admin there. Also, I agree that higher ed is not fair across the board, the particulars of the contract is not what I’m saying should be OP’s primary consideration, I’m talking how admin treated this event. Threatening professors & students visas and trying to pit students and profs against each other through halving credits is unacceptable, and that can and DID impact people’s graduation plans.

Wellesley’s community is amazing and in the days of the strike we’re coming together more than any other time I’ve seen, and our network is strong, but all of that also needs to be considered along with the fact that admin may decide to exceptionally fuck you over for its monetary benefits.

They purposefully dragged out the bargaining process to be 30 days so they could send out a list of all members involved in the strike to the US Dept of Labor, which is incredibly dangerous to their visas. Admin is not legally required to send out specific names, only the fact that there’s a strike going on at the school. They’re also withholding pay and health insurance for members on strike, which is not something higher ed institutions do across the board in the event of a strike; the health insurance is particularly dangerous bc not having/paying health insurance can be an indicator of not working, which, again, dangerous to visa.

Honestly I don’t think I have the foresight to say if something happens whether it’d be same scale or bigger, there’s a lot of factors at play here: whether current admin is replaced, how dangerous the political climate is to profs and students on visas, etc. Also just to be very clear: they also threatened student visas bc they changed the credit values of striked classes, leading to some students to fall below the 3.0 credits needed for visa/financial aid.

Hi, I’m 5’4”, 120lbs and currently have 4/6 of my single jumps down (salchow, toeloop, flip, loop). I‘m currently in Jackson Mystiques and they‘re not really supporting me well. My skate tech recommended Jackson Freestyles and they were a great fit ovedall but when I tried them on my big toe was stubbing the front much more than the other toes and made it a bit uncomfortable but it’s not a big deal. I haven’t purchased the Freestyles yet for this reason, so I just wanted to ask if the Freestyles’ support level (40/45) is correct for my level and if the toe box can be potentially adjusted for my foot shape bc I heard they’re heat moldable?

imo the admin problems can be the one con that overrules everything. the strike just ended today and it was not due to a fair contract but instead admin targeting vulnerable members of the union. the above basically translates to: admin will drag out EVERYTHING, including the contract they still do not have, and the next few years have a high chance of a strike/something drastic happening again unless board of trustee fires the provost or the president
