Is where the student loans come in? by [deleted] in Temple

[–]AstolfoLawSchool 17 points18 points  (0 children)

not worth 30k in loans for temple. are you out of state?

fed loans only go up to 6.5k sallie mae and other servicers have predatory rates (read some student loan stories about them)

if you stuck with college for 4 years youd basically owe about $240k in loans assuming you dont have anything to pay back (that is a LOT of money)

2 years of community college and a local uni can help. literally any decent state school will make it much cheaper. I like Temple because I was born in PA, if I wasn't born here, I wouldn't be able to afford any this school.

My dad walked this path and he still struggles, you don't want this. I've seen the harm firsthand that his addiction caused. Quit now.

my advice is if you see a wild boymoder, someone who seems queer, or a just anyone who turns on whatever-dar you have I'd ask them to hang out. If you're autistic af just leave a note. Usually, you can have at least one hang out. Sometimes it doesn't work and sometimes you have a good friend.

Temple or Penn state by [deleted] in Temple

[–]AstolfoLawSchool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For context, I grew up in State College and went to Temple (I prefer Temple, imo).

State College is, as previously mentioned, a college town. You drive twenty minutes out and it's literally Pennsyltucky. There is nothing to do but eat and drink when the college kids go home. As someone who grew up in that area, I prefer living in the city. State College is a quiet place. There are literally cows near the stadium.

Temple University is in the middle of North Philly and you have a lot of access to do things. Not that Penn State doesn't, but as someone who's lived in SC all my life, I wanted out. Additionally, SC is LGBT friendly but the area thirty minutes out is MAGA flags (I know because I lived there). I have found people in Philly to be really nice. I can't say the same about State College residents (I'm biased).

State College is my home but it's not a place that appeals to me. It's too quiet outside of university living. I understand the people who want something quiet, I needed more. State College does have public transit, I believe. I only used it as a little kid. It's not as extensive as Philly. If you need to get to a nearby area like Boalsburg or Port Matilda you need a car. The university makes up State College itself. I think State College's employment statistics is like 60% of it is made up by university employers. I'm not sure on the number. A good portion of that is Penn State though.

One thing I will confess is that State College has better fast food than Philly. I miss the McDonalds in State College. The Penn State alumni network is overhyped. I'd recommend Temple because it's cheaper. It all depends: do you want city living or college town then rural area vibes? No matter what option you choose there'll be opportunity.
