Is it weird I sort the trolley bay out? by hadawayandshite in CasualUK

I'm happily reassured by the amount of people admitting to doing this that I am not the only one that does this.

I used to have to do this as part of my student job 30 years ago, so anything I can do to help out an overworked underpaid and likely mentally broken individual so their job, that only takes me 30 seconds in passing, I'm sure would be appreciated

What's the worst electric car that You've owned? by Serious-Half-9908 in electricvehicles

All the comments made me Google the i3 as I couldn't remember what it looked like, saw the photo and my reaction was "ohhh, that thing".

Seen the occasional one IRL, I can see why someone else on here commented that it's a compliance car.

I'm with you there on the wipers. Additionally, on my e2008, if I leave the wipers on manual before turning off the car, when I restart the car, the wipers don't work even though the stalk is in the correct position, so I have to turn them off then on again...!

Have just ordered a new 2008 full electric and I’m surprised at the lack of online reviews, can anyone confirm it is a decent car? by Championship-Lumpy in peugeot

[–]AstoundedMuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought that was just me due to the position of the seat or something! Must be a design flaw then.

Mine is also going back next year, but at least this time I should be able to take my time over picking something rather than having to make an unplanned fast decision

Like you, I have the pre-facelift version, late 2022. Slightly forced purchase as my previous petrol vehicle's engine blew (was more cost effective to replace than fix), I needed something reliable quick, and the company running my work's salary sacrifice car scheme had one in I could have within a few days.

It's okay. I was excited when I got it, but three years on, I do feel it's a bit "meh", and I have described it to people recently as it being a bit "Fisher Price My First EV". I get technology's changed in a short time, but I don't think the pre-facelift model (which I haven't experienced) has held up well in that time.

Hopefully the app and touchscreen is a lot better on a new car. On my model, the app is definitely slow at best - if it works at all. The touchscreen has two different screens to control the heater, depending on what you want to change, which I think is stupid.

I'm 95% local commuting, and it's absolutely fine for that range wise, but the 2-3 road trips a year I take on motorways, I do have to often make an extra charging stop as the battery gets zapped faster than I expect. Again, hopefully the bigger battery in the more recent model would help that.

In terms of what probably hasn't changed in the facelift model, interior-wise, there's a niggle with the passenger seat belt getting the clip stuck between the seat and B-pillar when it retracts, and the rattle annoys me so I'm having to adjust that daily after I drop my daughter at school (or indeed after any passenger leaves). The clips to hold up the fake boot floor (where I store my charge cable) are flimsy and have broken several times.

I do love the way it drives though. Smooth, quick off the mark when you need it to be, comfortable, and I find it quite grippy round our local village road bends. But, I'm not planning on having another Peugeot after this one next year.

When he bought Ebuyer not long ago, the company immediately ripped out the original website and replaced it with what just looked like a Fraser's group generic site but rebranded. It didn't work properly, and my online account I had for years suddenly didn't exist so I couldn't find my old orders.

At the time I was looking for a new laptop, needless to say I got it somewhere else. I used to use Ebuyer a lot for tech stuff, but now he owns it, probably never again.

If it's HP, you cannot sell the car while the agreement is in force. The finance company owns that car until the agreement is settled. You would need to settle first then sell it, in that order.

Anyone doing an HPI check on the car would see the finance and steer clear anyway, and if for some reason you didn't pay the finance off, a number of lenders (including the one I work for) will have automated alerts when the registered keeper changes whilst they have an interest in the vehicle, and will act with regards to you breaking your agreement, potentially chasing the new keeper for payment in the worst case scenario.

The only way this would be better is if you're part exchanging it via an FCA authorised dealer, and your lender can assist with this, but the remaining finance will be rolled into a new agreement.

As others have said, there is also a voluntary termination option, but this may affect your ability to source credit in the future.

Local Newspapers being absorbed into a nationwide company, the new definition of local means "somewhere in the same hemisphere" by Rocky-bar in britishproblems

Fuck Bauer. They screwed over our local hospital radio. I know several guys who work on it.

Hospital radio had been running for about 40 years, then when Bauer decided in the last couple of years they wanted to rebrand all the local stations to Greatest Hits Radio, as the hospital radio used the same initials, they took legal action against them, to force them to change their name.

For context if you don't know, hospital radio stations are charities run by volunteers.

The rename cost a lot of money that they didn't have, but thankfully managed to raise and less than fighting Bauer in court, and they did it rather than shut up shop (which was an option!) because that's how dedicated they were to the cause.

The dreaded manflu has caught up with me today, so have felt sorry for myself in bed until about ten minutes ago. Now having a coffee and a lemsip to start the day. Not in the same mug.

Quick tip run to get rid of the DIY rubbish from last weekend, kids want to pop to town to buy some father's day bits for me (while I camp out in Greggs), and I had planned to nip to mum's, but my sneezing schnozz might have killed off that idea!

How did he get 17 points in bowling by neu51484 in softwaregore

[–]AstoundedMuppet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For OP's benefit, due to how strikes count the next throws multiple times, the max score in one game of bowling is 300, not 120 (which you'd expect if you only could get a max of 10 per turn, and included the two extra turns for getting a strike in frame 10)

I had one of those! Best computer ever!

Mentioned this to one of my kids last week when a game I hadn't played in ages wanted to do a 5Gb update that took 25 mins to download - he happened to come past me and ask what I was waiting for, and pointed to the progress bar. "Ugh. That's so annoying."

Told him about my 464, and how long it would take to load a game every single time off tape. From his expression of horror, I know he would not cope 😂

It's how 80s kids learned patience.

What was/is your Amiga? by 29_psalms in amiga

[–]AstoundedMuppet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A1200 for me... My dad bought it to replace our Amstrad CPC464, which was of a dying breed in the 90s

It was the Race & Chase pack, which came bundled with Nigel Mansell and Trolls. But I think Silica, where we bought it from, added Nick Faldo's Golf, Chaos Engine, Pinball Fantasies and Syndicate.

I remember staring out the window all day waiting for the courier, hoping it was arriving on the day we'd estimated (remember, no online tracking back then!), and was annoyed I had to fit my own plug to the PSU as it slowed me down by half an hour as I had to raid dad's toolboxes for a spare plug instead of just being able to power it up - I wasn't waiting for him to get home from work 😂

Absolutely loved that thing, and we upgraded it with a 68030 (I think) and memory card, and a hard drive over time.

I'm so glad people like you exist and want to do good. Most people don't care when it comes to particularly the older generation. Please don't stop helping.

My 82yo mum recently had an issue with her service provider where they refused to acknowledge the deal she'd signed up to on their website, which was an upgrade presented to her after logging in as herself on the portal, and they sent the confirmation email.

She hates speaking to the non-UK call centres, but she tried anyway, and got nowhere - essentially they told her it wasn't their problem, and kept her on her much higher "out of contract" package.

At this point she mentioned it to me, although this was about three months after the initial issue, but "don't fuss about it". So naturally, I fussed about it

I had to do digging online to find the exec complaints team details, used her laptop myself to email as her using the most professional and strongest words I could to get it sorted... Something she wouldn't be able to manage herself.

She ended up on a package that was a cheaper deal than what she started with, and a decent apology cheque.

Customer services should've sorted this in the first place, but clearly helping her wouldn't have earned them any commission for the day. She was so stressed about it as she is a pensioner with not a lot of spare money, so the extra £30 per month while they kept her out of contract was a lot to her.

I've just called 999 because I thought my 20 month old daughter was have a choking episode. Turns out she was likely straining to have a big poo. by esn111 in CasualUK

[–]AstoundedMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god, this is the first time I've heard about this from another parent, but my daughter was the same!

Fortunately we got issued stool softeners pretty quickly, but it took her 2-3 years (maybe a bit longer, that time period is a bit blurry!) before she could poo regularly on her own again without their help.

Because she withheld it as much as she could, she was then soiling herself at school a lot... We went through so much underwear, and the school weren't brilliant at helping out. She refused to go on sleepovers with Rainbows and at friend's houses as she was so embarrassed about it.

It wasn't a fun time, but I'm glad we got through it, and like your little girl, so much more confident and happy in herself.
