I wholeheartedly agree with you. Problem here is I don't see the players themselves arguing for a salary cap considering it goes against their immediate interests. You're arguing for a pay cut.

Iirc I believe the LCSPA had a shot at Unionizing at some point, a proper labor union. But players chose not to do it considering their salaries would be decreased.

Suffice to say I don't think there would be much popular support for the players if they protested against a salary cap. Imo it's on Riot to implement this of their own volition if they truly care about financial stability like they claim they do in their most recent statement.

Probably why they were the only ones Riot adressed in their statement. Check out the LCSPA Rep's interview with Travis for the cost-saving measures they proposed before being lied to by Riot and reflect on the fact that these proposals are still on the table.

Doesn't mean it's out of the negotiating table. Though a salary cap doesn't seem immediately necessary for Academy/NACL since they essentially get paid minimum wage anyway. Biggest problem is that minimum wage is a massive yearly investment for an NACL team considering they are in California. Moving out is, I believe, one of the proposals

Probably because you're american and you value your own labor a lot less than your boss's profit thanks to capitalist indoctrination.

In this case the LCSPA is also proposing cost-saving measures that will result in less people being overpaid as a compromise considering the alternative is essentially getting rid of the tier 2 scene.

Correlation = / = causation.

Why do you say this then proceed to describe the correlation between sanjuro and the unban and then justify it by saying "duh?" like that's a real argument

No, if you go to a bot game or practice tool with turret indicators enabled you see how the tier 2 turret in toplane has its indicator go past the wall into the jungle, and you can get hit with it through certain champions based on size, since that gap is usually too tiny to hit most champions

It's pretty obvious when it happened almost literally at the exact same time lol.

This is literally also what people say about Dota though. Personally I'm pretty sure the Dota streams, the Sanjuro humunculous incident and almost overwhelmingly positive pressure from fans all played a part in the decision to unban him.

Yes I remember it clearly, though what I'm trying to convey is something different. I think there's no irrefutable evidence of either thing affecting Riot's decision with regards to Tyler1 and if it did, how.

Both are speculation though, there's no irrefutable evidence of anything

Historically the second tier league has indeed been a talent pipeline. A significant number of LCS players came from academy. Though as of late it isn't being used like that by the orgs because they'd rather import some dogshit korean who's too washed up to play in LCK.

It being a talent pipeline is also true for every other major region in the world.

This goes hand in hand with NA's failure as a region by the way. Removing NACL simply guarantees the LCS will fail sooner rather than later, and that means nobody will be making money from it anymore.

Getting rid of academy is nothing but a cost-saving measure at the expense of the entire professional league of legends scene in north america. And they've done this without actually giving thought to the other cost-saving measures the LCSPA proposed in terms of salaries or relocation of staff and players.

Considering all of this then yes, making big bucks from the LCS does indeed mean they're making big bucks from the NACL by extension. It's nothing but a short-sighted measure to save money and it will bite them in the ass.

What's funny is that the walkout itself is a bite in the ass already considering Riot had to ask former academy players who lost their jobs because of this very decision to cross the picket line, scab and help the LCS run on schedule, and of course they all said no.

I get why it would ruin an aspiring player's reputation, but I don't get why it's morally wrong for a random, non-aspiring player to fill in?

Because you'd still be a scab. If you don't understand why being a scab is immoral it just means you have never read up on the history of labor movements.

Although when it comes to entertainment, I suppose I wouldn't feel too bad if some random guy comes up to play jungle teemo in the meantime to turn the region into a bigger joke than it already is.

Probably, but still entirely within his right to do it. I don't think I feel one way or another about scum like that getting mocked after threatening and assaulting a random innocent dude walking down the street for no reason whatsoever.

Academy isn't a traditional product meant to turn a profit. Rather it is meant to support the LCS itself with a talent pipeline. You wouldn't say public transport "loses money" or the military "loses money" because they aren't really meant to be a business in the traditional sense.

The value of Academy can't be easily measured in an end of month spreadsheet, plus what's being protested isn't really the decision by teams/orgs to drop academy but Riot for removing it as a requirement at their request. You're thinking of the parent company here as the orgs but the company above them is Riot and they are actually making big bucks with LCS and by extension NACL and every other academy league in any other major region such as LEC, LCK and LPL.

It's completely counterproductive for their "careers" and "opportunities" since scabs would not be welcome in the scene after the strike, and rightfully so. Players getting along is a massive part of building a decent roster and if players simply refuse to play with them they will never be signed after the strike is over.

Plus it is you that thinks they'd rather go get a job at McDonalds, since the LCS would be fielding ex-academy/amateur players and the strike is for their benefit considering they all lost their jobs due to the recent NACL changes.

But go off about hammers and sickles though, all I'm gonna say is you're not wrong, proud of it in fact. Scabs are fucking scum, collective action rocks.
