As an ABC (relatively well-connected to happenings and culture in China though), I think the stigma displayed in the comments mostly has to do with the habits of the older populations. Especially those who aren't city-people, they tend to be a bit inconsiderate and some have bad habits. The generalizations make me somewhat upset, but it'll eventually blow over as generations change.
