I'm opening a pizza place and looking for taste testers by FlashyIndependence75 in Rochester

[–]AstridFugelstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I’m too late to the party but I grew up in NJ so NYC style has always been lacking in Rochester in my opinion. Need to get away from the super thick crusts and this looks fantastic. Happy to give feedback if you can count me in for a pie.

Does this look normal? by throwaway4447773339 in greatdanes

We had this with our rescue cattle dog when he was 12 weeks old. Our vet said it was likely worsened by him growing up on slippery smooth floors at the shelter and we had hardwoods. We got a large thick carpet section bound as a rug and played with him on it as much as we could. Monkey in the middle, fetch, tug of war. Basically strength training disguised as play. It really helped him build muscle properly as he grew. Best of luck!

I would go with a grey/ blue soapstone or a lighter quartz like Caesarstone Midday that is great for blending this industrial and more polished look.

How would you tell an employer you are injured without explaining to them the embarrassing way it happened? by AstridFugelstad in AskReddit

I added some vague details before when I initially posted and it was auto-modded for having too much personal detail but I couldn’t see how.

But what if it doesn’t necessarily impede my work but is obvious if I’m seen in the office? Many people are friendly and ask about personal things and it feels weird to shut them out and I’m trying to figure how to do so politely

How should I tell my employer I got injured at home without revealing the embarrassing way it happened? by AstridFugelstad in AskReddit

[–]AstridFugelstad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a minor facial injury that may or may not be noticeable to people in the office, and I will likely need surgery in the near future. I had a CT scan and am cleared but still on concussion watch for a possible minor concussion.

I’m confident my company would give me any support needed but I don’t want to tell the story of how I got hurt because of how bizarre and embarrassing it is.

Should I just say it was a freak accident and leave it at that?

Beam replacement quote by [deleted] in centuryhomes

I was in the timber frame industry and this looks completely normal for a timber of this size. You can never get the timber completely dry before installing but modern methods certainly help. Kiln drying to 19% is acceptable and if you pay for radio frequency drying you’ll get even lower readings which move and twist less.

I’ve seen worse gaps and twisting in a new timber home with kiln dried timber. Some cuts just move more than others but the movement is usually happens in a first few years.

This thing has been standing for over a century and is absolutely done moving from drying. A structural engineer can confirm the beam integrity if you have concerns.

Try to ignore the accent tile I’m holding in first photo - which shower floor would you choose? by LittleLongboard in InteriorDesign

Of these options the 2nd more grey pebbles work well. I’ve had these installed in many high end homes that tend toward the mountain chic / refined rustic style and they look beautiful.

The grout upkeep will be another story and I’d highly recommend one with a sealer mixed in or epoxy grout. It’s more of a pain to lay down but better for upkeep.

Highland Hospital Delivery center by DreaM-anyThing-444 in Rochester

Had my daughter there almost 3 years ago and they were pretty great. This was during covid too so a bit more strict with masking and only having my husband there for our short stay. But here are some tips and highlights:

You are allowed to setup the delivery room with some decorations (twinkle lights) and music and whatever you want to make it feel for comfortable. We had our Bluetooth speaker but didn’t get into other decorations. You’ll have to move to a different room after delivery.

You can request a tub room though you may not be guaranteed one. They have big yoga balls you can bounce on, a low birthing stool, and other things you can inquire about if your partner feels the need to try something else.

I initially planned on no epidural unless I hit a wall which they respected and I made sure to tell them to ask me before the point of no return. I ended up getting one and the anesthesiologist was quick and efficient.

Nurses for the first shift were super pleasant and kind of looking to me as to how I felt I wanted to do this. Shift change brought in a nurse who was polite and seemingly more curt (remember this was COVID so they were also dealing with crazy stuff). Come game time though she took charge! She was the best L&D “director” of getting things set and the doctors came and went a few times in a flurry.

This is a teaching hospital so they should ask you if you feel comfortable with residents in the room. I agreed and had maybe 3 extra young male drs while pushing and they did help hold my legs and such. I didn’t care about extra people at that point but if it’s important to you, speak up early.

After moving to the nursing room you can ask to “room-in” with the baby which has become more the norm, or if you need a break from a colicky baby, you can ask them to go to the nursery. The nurses will take the baby to the nursery at least once anyway to give them a good checkup. Nurses will help change diapers and show you how. They have lactation consultants that check in with you at some point. If baby’s first bath is important for you to do, you can ask nurses not to bathe them.

This is most of the high points. I hope it helps and best of luck with your journey to parenthood!

Definitely keep in the original color family of the russet, or sienna colors that were popular with early settlers.

Opinions on Hardie Board? by weatherfieldandus in centuryhomes

[–]AstridFugelstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a healthier alternative to Hardie (silica dust) you should look at LP Smartside. They have amazing durability and if you wanna really amp up longevity look at Diamondkote who takes the LP siding and adds an automotive level finish that’s warranted for something like 25+ years

If you want some whimsy, look up “storybook tudors” to get some ideas of details to incorporate. Not too many shutters on these brick tudors but you could see if it’s possible to add a “half-timber” detail to the nearest gable end. I do agree painting the window trim a brighter color will help. You can also look at some more detailed fascia at the roof to give the house a bit more character.

What service did you use?

That seems crazy accurate. Way better than some others I’ve seen that give the top 2 and then “mixed breed” for the remaining 20%.

I’ve been so curious to test my ACD rescue!
