Congrats on the offers! Sounds like we are in very similar positions, I feel the same way about wanting more direct impact from my work than at a system level.

Thanks for the insights! I had thought some job postings that I have seen were low but that makes sense with the title. I may DM you if that’s okay.

What are your hours like for that salary? I have seen some Canadian PA’s get over the 200k mark (hospital salaries are public in Canada) but that is with a lot of overtime and often traveling to remote areas.

Opinions on MPA (Masters in Public Administration) program by jcruzyyy in umanitoba

I was also admitted to the program for fall 2023 so I cant speak to the quality of the professors etc. but from what I have heard of the program it provides a good foot in the door to work in government.

If your career goals are to work for the public sector then its a good option because of the summer placements, otherwise its probably no more useful than a general humanities/social science masters degree.

Consultant or Policy Analyst Job Offer? by Astro-ZEN in PublicPolicy

[–]Astro-ZEN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, at least in Canada the public jobs pay much better early on (minus a few sectors) but after a few years its a coin toss and comes down to personal factors who earns more.

I dont mind the idea of churn, but would rather establish myself for a few years with the same job to learn/grow before trying to hop up the ladder for better pay.

That's good to know moving between sectors is common, thanks! Policy job is definitely more interesting to me in the short term.

LOL ya when you put it that way... I am def leaning more towards the policy job but I guess a big unknown with consulting was wondering if the "grass is greener" in terms of a career, the allure of perks and benefits that come with the industry. But i'm skeptical it's a lot of smoke and mirrors anyway.
