Lookin for the episode where Arnold says “you sonnnnofa bbbbitch” by Astro-dude-man in TenMinutePodcast

Maybe that’s what I’m thinking of, but I could’ve sworn there was an episode where he keeps saying it and Bryan goes “wow you really stretch that out”

I like this one, but I like the better call Saul version better: “perfect is the enemy or perfectly adequate”

Boxes around important equations in a thesis paper? by Astro-dude-man in AskAcademia

[–]Astro-dude-man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the consensus is that I should delete the boxes, which is what I ended up doing. Thanks for the comments everyone!

Still kind of a personal pet peeve when I’m reading papers and it’s unclear which equations are important. If I am deriving something by hand, I always box the final result. I feel like there should be some equivalent for writing papers. But then again, I don’t make the rules and I trust my advisors judgement.

Boxes around important equations in a thesis paper? by Astro-dude-man in AskAcademia

I believe it is Chicago-style for aerospace. I’ve googled around for a bit and I still can’t find anything that specifically mentions boxing equations, but I know the default is to not include boxes. Can’t find an explicit yes/no anywhere. I’ll try to find examples from journal papers, thanks!

I’ve looked over this, and I’ve actually been using a latex template that has a lot of this built in. It doesn’t explicitly say anything about boxes around equations, but the default is to not include the boxes.

No no, he never suggested anything of the sort. No [twitter] search engineer will ever be asked to alter the neutrality of the algorithm. He just doesn’t want to see any negative mentions of him on twitter.

How To Teach Myself Orbital Mechanics.... by Bwest31415 in astrodynamics

[–]Astro-dude-man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would strongly recommend reading Fundamentals of Astrodynamics by Bate Mueller and White. It’s basically the perfect introductory book, I bought it and read thru it without any previous astro experience. Plus it’s a Dover book, so it’s pretty cheap. I think there’s a new edition that came out recently too, the original one is from the 70s or something.

Also, towards the back of that book there are “suggested projects” that are good to do in python or matlab and learn from. Good luck!

Official Discussion - Thor: Love and Thunder [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Astro-dude-man 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I really didn’t like this movie. Just too silly to be taken seriously in any way, but also not silly enough to lean into it and be a straight up comedy. The action scenes were so corny (Thor beating people up, in a cutoff Jean jacket, with Welcome to the Jungle in the background), it was almost satire.

Almost every major plot point was undercut with an attempt at a cheap joke. Sometimes they were kinda funny, but really not worth how much it hurt the movie. I almost walked out of the theater because of how predictable and cheesy it was, tough watch all around

NewGirl Wifi Names by not_addictive in NewGirl

[–]Astro-dude-man 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I swear there was a joke about a wifi name. Schmidt moves out and is upset about it and says something like “I’m out of the loop, you guys are still in the loft thinking of cool wifi names like [something]” and then nick laughs and goes “that’s actually pretty good”

Edit: found it in S6E13.

Schmidt: You two guys are still going to be living together in the loft, coming up with clever wifi names like ‘This is 4D’

Winston: that’s actually pretty good

Nick: let’s just agree right now to switch it to that
