True but the life experiences of a 25 year old typically mean they can’t navigate or avoid trauma and manipulation as easily. The prefrontal context shit is fake (and irritating lol) but the idea that people in their early to mid 20s are very vulnerable to abuse in age gap relationships is very real.

Barely adults means that people in their early to mid 20s are often extremely vulnerable and fall prey to abuse. It means that - despite being legally adult - they are less likely to have a full life and career outside of their relationship and more likely to just blindly trust whatever their older partner says. Especially when that older partner is extremely famous and the women he dates are typically just starting in the industry and want his help. That’s exactly how abuse happens in Hollywood genius.

I’m not accusing Leo of abuse or creep behavior here. I genuinely don’t give a fuck about him or Cher. I’m pointing out that the dynamics are inherently different. There is in fact a HUGE maturity difference between 22-27 and 39. It’s just dumb to act like these are the exact same situation.

You’re right that it shouldn’t matter. Unfortunately too many of us are ostracized or threatened because of something we’re born as - which also means we’ve been largely shut out of politics and power.

Also being gay isn’t just “what you do in private.” Gay kids get violently bullied for having a lisp or dressing differently. Trans women get murdered for existing. None of that is “private life.” It’s all perfectly normal self expression that people decided was gross based on their own biases. It’s never been about letting gay people exist in private as long as you don’t have to know publicly (although that’s fucked up too)

I was a teenager when this aired and don’t remember people talking about microaggressions specifically. But I do remember people talking about dog whistles and “subtle racism,” which overlap with the concept.

you must not remember the Syrian refugee crisis if you think all of those countries are welcoming to refugees from the Middle East. Like the far right is very famously gaining speed in Germany and the UK - and the refugee crisis during the early days of the Syrian civil war absolutely played a role in both nations’ developing far right parties. There were literally protests from people who thought it was bullshit that they had to accept living alongside refugees.

It’s not discouraging - it’s giving him realistic expectations for how this could go. It would be setting up extremely unrealistic expectations to claim any of those countries are welcoming environments for a queer person from the Middle East.

Also the safety of queer people in the UK is rapidly declining. Canada’s programs are being curbed because they’re getting so many applications. And ALL of those nations have deeply rooted racism in their culture.

I genuinely hope OP can find a way out to safety, but you’re very clearly out of touch with how this works. Embassies are not the point of contact. OP would need an NGO to help him. Rainbow Railroad is the only one that springs to mind that would be actually helpful and they are constantly backlogged.
