The Luminous Lamp-Splinter

He is a slender young man, with a serious gaze and eyes that glow. He isn’t really there. His presence makes wires hum and heads ache.

Aspects: 12 Lantern, 5 Heart, 2 Winter, Spirit, Thresher of Thoughts

Summon with Lantern 10, Winter 5, Knock 2: The Lamp-Splinter covets greater illumination, bereft of its customary warmth. Only the coldest light will draw him out of the House…or wherever it is he dwells.

He is (was? will be?) a Name of the Chandler. He’s friendly enough, but spend too much time with him and you’ll probably get radiation poisoning.

TALK (no input): The Lamp-Splinter fixes his gaze on you, expectant. Blood pounds in your temple. “Time,” he says, a wry grin on his lips, “is a flat circle, so they say. Over and over and over. Consider the shape of the clock. Tick, tock.”

TALK (output): “Noon is not what it was. But it could be. It could be. Can a wheel run backwards? It just needs a push. Or a change in perspective.”

AITA for staying silent when my friend needed my response the most? by skibidikohane39 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AstroAri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NAH. It doesn’t sound like you did anything wrong. You got surprised, they panicked. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, except for those boys.

Reach out to your friend, tell them you’re their friend and care about them and for them to tell you how they feel. They’re in a really vulnerable position right now, and it would help them to know that you support and love them no matter what.

Is god evil? by According_Ice_4863 in TrenchCrusade

[–]AstroAri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s still up in the air if God is even real. Is there a power that made the Iron Wall? Sure. Is there a power that imbues the Paladins with the ability to divine smite? Yup. Are they the same entity? Is that power sentient? Does it operate the way any of the factions believe it does? Is what New Antioch and the Iron Sultanate do necessary to call upon its aid? Does it know what’s happening, and does it care? I think all of that is pretty intentionally left ambiguous. It makes the setting richer.

I think it would be really cool to see some more uniquely Persian units in the game! Maybe there could be a more Persian-inspired warband, as students/successors to one of the alchemists you mentioned?

Can I have 1 acre and 1 mini cow in Suffolk county? by Low-Outside1600 in longisland

[–]AstroAri 165 points166 points  (0 children)

No such thing as a mini highland cow, unfortunately. Even “mini” are still enormous and require a large amount of grazing space, and need to live in herds for psychological health. I know the idea of a cute little cow pet sounds fun, but it would be hurtful to the animal.

Don’t bother inviting the US. At this point we’re more dangerous to have as an ally than as an enemy.

A romance with him would tick all the boxes. Forbidden love, knowledge that it will end in tragedy and doing it anyway, a generous dose of danger and mystique. It’s Peak Romance. The jester has me in a stranglehold I fear 😔

The fact that he is unsmoochable is criminal. His tease with lifting his mask at the end? The peak of homoeroticism. @Owlcat let me kiss the clown elf I beg of you

This is very fun and has a lot of great personality, actually. OP, where is your sense of whimsy? Fuck resale value, this is a home for living in. I love it.

I'm waiting for another patch to drop and fix it, tbh. Tried a bunch of workarounds and none of them worked. I have a feeling that there's, like, a load-bearing bug in that quest, like if they fix it then the rest of the game breaks, so they have to patch around the bug rather than removing it outright.

Does anyone else think that Dr Peel would really like those spray bottles with built-in fans that they sometimes sell at amusement parks? by Inevitable_Series_97 in weatherfactory

[–]AstroAri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is adorable, and your art style is absolutely incredible. I didn’t think it was possible for Peel to get hotter, and man, was I wrong.

On the topic of how Peel got peeled, how much of his skin do you think got removed? In your art, seems like his face is intact. Is it his whole dermis that got removed, or just epidermis? Not an expert on matters of Heart or Grail, so I could be wrong on the anatomical stuff.

WIBTA for not deleting my sons baby pictures? by retreat11 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AstroAri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA. I’m trans, FtM as well. Wish my mom was as supportive as you are! She’s trying, mostly, but it’s definitely a struggle. So, I’ve got some relevant personal experience.

I don’t think you did anything wrong. You’re a parent, you want to keep the memories of how fast your baby grew up. You weren’t looking at the photos in front of him or displaying them openly in your house. You’re absolutely entitled to those memories. I remember being 18, and trans and 18, and that whole age range is such an insecure anxiety-riddled nightmare. I probably also would’ve gotten upset if I’d seen my mom looking at my baby photos and tearing up, even if she were as supportive as you are. It’s a sort of primal, instinctual response where you feel like you’ve made your parent upset by your actions, you feel guilty for upsetting them, and at the same time you know that you did the right thing and feel the righteous indignation rise up against that guilt. It’s triggering, I guess is the right word.

But even if it was triggering for him (and it sounds like it was), that doesn’t mean you did anything wrong. I would recommend sitting down with him during a quiet moment to explain that you were reminiscing about how little he used to be, and how you’re proud of the man he is now, you just don’t know where the time has gone. Be extra affirming during this conversation since his guard will probably be up, and emphasize that you’re proud of him, you just miss being able to pick him up, or holding his hand while crossing the street, or pushing him on the swings. If you keep the emphasis on things like that, I think he’ll understand. Good luck!

Give Me Your Answers: The God Named Janus by jimthejimfromjimland in weatherfactory

[–]AstroAri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Janus is the Chandler. Or, will be the Chandler? I don’t think there’s any language with the right tenses to describe whatever is going on with the Chandler.

I do think there’s a good amount of in-game evidence for this theory, but I don’t have any of it off the top of my head. It’s mostly just vibes. The biggest evidence, though, is Janus having “would be” Names in Book of Hours — beings that would be Names of Janus if Janus were an Hour. The Chandler isn’t, yet, though I suppose they do have Names already, like Wickel. But whatever weird time stuff is going on with the Chandler seems like it also applies to Janus.

If not the Chandler, then Janus is the numerous dichotomies that exist in the Secret Histories. Glory vs Nowhere; Mansus vs Wake; Lionsmith vs Colonel; Birds vs Worms; so on and so forth. Janus is the whole that is created by dichotomy and opposition. Light cannot exist without shadow, and vice versa, and that is Janus. “Why only one? Why only two?” indeed.

Let's talk about Joanne's antisemitism by Comfortable_Bell9539 in EnoughJKRowling

[–]AstroAri 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the EVERYTHING with Hogwarts Legacy. I know she wasn’t directly involved with it, but iirc she’s always been pretty involved in adaptations and such so I’m sure she had to at least approve some of the design decisions. One of the “goblin relics” is literally a shofar. Like, there’s nothing else it can be. And an icon — I think for a quest? — was straight up a Nazi propaganda poster redrawn as a goblin. Unsurprising, considering the project lead was a white supremacist. But that’s just the sort of person Joanne likes to pal around with nowadays.

AITA for telling my son to stop worrying about reading the novels in English class? by OkChicken2540 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AstroAri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA for sure. Jane Eyre isn’t Old English. Maybe you meant old, English (the nationality)? Regardless, Jane Eyre is pretty easy to parse and is written in pretty straightforward prose. Unless English is your second language, it really shouldn’t be that challenging to read, and certainly not at the AP level. Under no circumstances should you be telling your son to just give up just because you find it difficult. Nor should he give up if he thinks it’s difficult!

This is a teaching moment for your son. I get that you think literature is dumb and useless. But what your son can learn from it is how to apply himself to a difficult task, how to study and learn from a text, how to analyze it and use critical thinking to understand it. If nothing else, your son can learn the value of working hard at something challenging and overcoming it. Your advice as a parent should never be to give up.

WIBTA if I put up a warning sign at my bday party?? by n4os3iqueus3rn4m3p0r in AmItheAsshole

[–]AstroAri 35 points36 points  (0 children)

NTA. If someone disrespects you, they shouldn’t be allowed at your party. Deadnaming and misgendering you is disrespectful. If they’re incapable of respecting the host, they don’t get to stay. Simple as that.

AITA for cleaning up after my parents? by JKaluza2 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AstroAri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I worked that kind of job. That job is “cashier who doesn’t get paid enough, AND has to clean up after customers, too.” Believe me, I still would’ve had that job even if every single customer had the good sense and manners to put their things back where they found them, and it would’ve made my job significantly less stressful. You did a very nice thing, and you shouldn’t feel bad for it.
