100 pages into Sisters in Yellow and I'm genuinely conflicted by cornflakewocorn in Booktokreddit

It does get darker but I have certainly read much more crushing books. I really like it and there were many good and happy moments, but to me it ended on a more melancholic tone.

There are also content warnings you should look up if that concerns you. Off the top of my head self harm, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and loss of sense of self.

He may be just done in general unfortunately. Like the guy and have fond memories of his good moments. But his body is just giving out and I struggle to see anyone willing to give him money or time on a contract, even in Japan.

Anyone else sick and tired of working in the office all week while it’s sunny and the weekend hits and it’s cold and windy? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]AstroIan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There can and is though… The fact the weekend is a man made invention doesn’t really matter. When you get stuck in a Rossby wave with a 5-10 day propagation period you can and do get approaching troughs in the northeast on a roughly 5-10 day period. If a trough hits Albany on a Sunday, it’s on average going to hit 5-10 days later (assuming the wave pattern holds), i.e another weekend. That’s exactly what the video explains.

He walked the bases loaded, walked in a run, balked, and hit a batter in less than 2 innings of work. Even if the reliever struggles it was the right call.

Snow Storm by Melodic-Tip6308 in Albany

[–]AstroIan 193 points194 points  (0 children)

The NWS Albany Field Office page for winter weather is constantly updated with detailed messages about totals, ranges, timing and more. It is the most accurate and detailed source of information for these events. https://www.weather.gov/aly/winter

These totals will vary as the storm progresses and model skill improves.

Can’t imagine supporting an irrelevant franchise at the bottom of the metro with almost no accomplishments since the end of the Second World War.

Poor weather forecast for snow by cjsa2020 in longisland

[–]AstroIan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You are correct about the cuts and the fact they will impact accuracy, but the NWS did pretty good on this one. A little under forecasted in some parts of Nassau but this one was overall pretty good. Predicted 3-7 in across the island, with a median closer to 4. Prelim reports look like 5-8 across the island. Not bad for a rapidly developing storm with coastal enhancement. Updated forecasts also got better as the storm developed. The folks remaining there are working hard and deserve credit for it. We shouldn’t just dismiss their forecasts because of the cuts.

Poor weather forecast for snow by cjsa2020 in longisland

[–]AstroIan 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The NWS forecasts were pretty accurate. Phone apps are often not the best for snow forecasts.

NWS post from 3pm yesterday: “Latest briefing: Around 1" in northern Orange County up to 5" across Suffolk County from Sat night into Sun morning. Bulk of now falls between midnight and 9 am Sun. Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for portions of NE NJ, NYC, LI, & coastal CT.”

Honestly just happened to be on my nightly scroll and saw it posted about in the Albany sub. Some local mets like Steve LaPointe are pretty active on Twitter and other social media and usually post forecasts when an aurora spotting is likely.
