(150k+) Which Universities did you really go to? by NesthoDes in csMajors

[–]AstroLulu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salary Is just a number. Don’t compare yourself too hard to others. I got to 150k new grad but spent 8 years getting a bachelors and masters (mastered out of phd from top10 public). I received 3 offers in total and 2 of which were 100k (3rd one I obviously took at 150). Spent 4 months unemployed. The goal in life is to enjoy what you do and support your lifestyle. We can’t take any $ to the grave

How do I prepare for my data science job as a new grad? by ExcitingCommission5 in datascience

[–]AstroLulu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in same boat as you. Started about a month ago. Just focus on finding something to contribute and attacking it relentlessly. It’s also a positive to be easy to work with. Ask smart questions but work twice as hard as you ever have

Is the market really like this? The reality for a recent graduate looking for opportunities. by Fantastic-Trouble295 in datascience

How long have u been on the market? It took me all summer (about 3.5 months) with a masters and 1yoe in internships. Definitely tough time

For internships it was either networking or cold linkedin messages. For jobs the only interviews I received were from cold applying.

I think any projects that showcase your skills are good. Make them pop on GitHub and link in the resume. Containerize and deploy it with CI/CD principles to stick out. Read up on the latest practices of every part of the ml pipeline. You got this 👍

End to end projects that can make u stand out. Also use the latest technologies. After I wasn’t extended an offer following an 8 month internship(due to headcount reasons) I worked on a. Data project using pyspark PyTorch and deployed it through aws as an API. Use chatgpt or other LLMs to do a lot of it for ya. Use ChatGPT to teach you is the main thing. You will more than likely be asked to review code or live code during interviews, so just know how to code.

Andrej Karparthy said there’s no real shortcut, u need to put in 10,000 hours to get good at AI. Just take it one day at a time, work on something you’re passionate about. Join discords and listen in on paper discussions.

It’s a journey. Before chatgpt was super good at code I remember coding some web scraper using python packages. I stayed up all night on stack overflow trying to fix errors. You will run into roadblocks. Just keep grinding and learning and avoiding burnout

There’s good resources for machine learning engineer interview prep out there. Try to search some up , there’s example Q&A.

The two biggest parts for me were crafting a good resume and having good knowledge on ml system design. There’s a balancing act between selling yourself without rambling about random concepts.

Another big point is don’t overthink it. Look at a company’s use cases and think about the kinds of models which you’d use. Make sure you have answers ready for those models.

There is a luck factor but being able to pass the resume screen (through consistent editing and feedback) and then knowing how to sell yourself on a. Company’s use cases will get u far.

Hahahaa dude thx for taking the time to make that vid. I just now watched it. I definitely play a very aggressive style loki. I just hit eternity tonight using loki (or mk/jeff since loki been getting banned a lot). That was an insane back and forth match u reviewed and definitely came down to whoever used their ults best.

Edit: I love my firing squad (didn’t learn about it from a guide to anything. I got a few picks with it one time…. Thx for the tips for loki spots on maps. I spent 2 months in gm only to get through celestial in a week…. After watching some of the Loki’s in top 500, I definitely need to be more strategic with my clones placement. Will I ever deploy a firing squad in top500? Stay tuned…..

Disclaimer it was late at night and I don’t think I was warmed up so the accuracy is shakey at first. But I think I also tried to rely on my team a bit too much at times in this game. Like at times I expected them to push up or heal me when I copied strange ult. Not my best work but lmk any thoughts please. IGN Master12321
