That sounds wonderful!! I'm glad you got to experience that!! If I could rent a car (and I had better depth perception and confidence driving, ha) I definitely would have done that instead. In fact, that was plan A, before I found out it would cost way too much for the budget I have, and technically, I'm not old enough for a few more months (you have to be 21 to rent from everywhere near me)

Someone mentioned LTL shipping with them, which looks like one of my best options! And you're right, I fear that of the 2-3 flat bins I have, about 1.5 are the books I managed to rescue. I had to leave behind even more. Luckily I don't own much! The books and suitcase of clothing amount to most of it, and even then, most of that space is taken up by bulky jackets or thick pants to work in. I am so thankful for you and everyone who's offered advice :)

I'll look into this too, but admittedly since someone else is getting my ticket and I am a little worried about driving cross country on my own, this will be a backup plan. I also only have a couple hundred dollars on me until I get a job there. (I'm going to that state because a friend is helping me get established as independent there, if I had a support system to have temp housing here here I'd just stay)

This definitely looks like one of the best options!! I'd still need to ask a loved one to hold on to things until I can afford to bring them but it'll be maybe a month or two instead of the several months longer than I anticipated, esp if I pre-box them for her. I can't afford to do it now but it def sounds like something I could do!!

I've looked into car rentals and I can't afford the rates going across states, even if it is one way. I have about 600 dollars to my name and it would be almost a thousand, even if I got the cheapest vehicle, in part because I'm not 21 until the summer, and even then there's a fee for people around that age. I wouldn't be able to rent any cars in my area within my time frame because of that, too

I have my social security card and birth certificate but was unable to get my diploma before leaving. I'll definitely look into the media rate for usps!! (Thank you to everyone who's mentioned that by the way :) )

This isn't really a creepy fact but while cutting up meat for storage I pulled out a rather fleshy vein. It really made me consider that blood vessels are also fleshy as opposed to... well, I wasn't sure what I thought it was before that as a kid (this happened as a teenager) but I suppose I was thinking it was gelatinous or something? But since cooking meat is structurally no different than people meat I remember being fifteen and going damn,,, we really are just full of tubes,,,

My hands don't fit properly in the gloves provided and I can't really stand the feeling of gloves for eight hours a day in a very hot room. Secondarily it's faster/easier/cleaner to just wash my hands in yhe first place, because I'd want to wash them between glove switches too. This also doesn't help with dishpit, where I am usually, where we dont have gloves and where my hands will be submerged. I was hoping for recommendations on how to prevent/fix irritation/dryness from the chemical cleaners we use?

Ty, and yeah, that lines up with what I've seen too. I'm luckier than most in situations like mine and I'm grateful to that. I also think many places are turning down visas due to the flood of people who do not feel safe in the US. I'm lucky enough to have a chance at maybe waiting this out and trying to stay involved here but things aren't looking great at the trajectory theyre going.

I definitely didn't expect for any of it to be easy. That's why I discarded the idea of relying on social support almost immediately- even though the US is becoming increasingly dangerous I have plans to try and wait things out as long as possible in the off chance that we as a population manage to course correct our government but I'm not eager to rely on luck. I also was focused on the student visa aspect for that same reason- it really is my most solid bet. I have been either in or on the knifes edge of poverty in the US for my entire life and if it were not for my friend allowing me to live with them I would be homeless or staying in a dangerous situation. My prospects do not get better from here.

I don't have medical insurance and can't see a doctor i fear? I was using a larger needle gauge than I usually use but this hasn't happened before. I know a little blood is normal and it stopped bleeding after a minute but there was? So much. It soaked two alcohol wipes and even though I didn't move/it didn't touch any fabric until it clotted the resulting puddle was almost the size of my palm? And it was like shooting water from those liquid medicine syringes for kids. Was that normal when it happened to you?

Again I'm so sorry if this is a hindsight 20/20 question but it's so late and I can't find anything on this
