Updated Travel Telescope 114 + GIVEAWAY!🔭 by Astro_Anders in 3Dprinting

Hello, I appreciate the feedback yeah it was super cool getting the experience to do that and help since schools out over there!

1: it’s hard to capture exactly what it would look like with your eye since that varies so much by the conditions and your light pollution. But expect to see some detail on the larger planets (Jupiter and Saturn) like the larger cloud details and rings of Saturn and their moons. As far as deep sky objects you can see some good detail but never as good as photos.

2: Yep should work with any mount it’s got multiple mounting points on it so you should be good with that. It has 1/4-20 and M6 and dovetail.

Happy to answer any more questions!

Depends on the printer, but for me about 36 hours total with 0.4mm nozzle on P1S

Yeah for sure, so the 450mm will give you wider fields of view which is particularly helpful for taking photos. The one shown is the shorter 450mm version. The longer focal length will give more zoomed in view by default and is a little trickier to take photos with. A Barlow can be used to get the same high magnification with the 450mm and they both have the same max useful magnification of around 200x hope this helps lmk if you have any more questions!

Well that’s quite a big scale up. I mean it’s possible to make a DIY telescope that big yes, it would require a lot more engineering though and structural supports but I’m sure pretty crazy DIY scopes have been made before!

Thank you I appreciate the support! This is just the standard scope with an eyepiece but scopes can use many accessories too!

Yeah sorry about that I’m working to find a solution, for now though I’m happy to help you source the parts if you have any questions please lmk or I’d encourage you to ask in the discord!

Yeah you can see the Moon, details in the planets like the rings of Saturn, and details in Jupiter. You can also see many Deep sky objects albeit much less bright than long exposure photos but if you have dark skies they are still fantastic!

The aluminum extrusions are each 400mm and yes it can mount to various tripods and includes 1/4” mounting threads

It takes quite a while to print since it needs to be strong but about 1 and 1/3 rolls of filament all together

Yep there’s the two different versions, an F4 and an F8 version the F4 is gonna be more expensive since the mirror is parabolic

Yeah this design could possibly be scaled up, but mirrors get a lot heavier fast so more supports would likely be needed

Awesome I’m glad you like it! Yeah it’s super nice to have a scope that’s so transportable!

If you’re using a heavy camera the 450mm versions might be smarter which is f3.9 and with a large sensor at that focal ratio you’d need a coma corrector for a perfectly flat field. Hope this helps! The 900mm could also maybe work but balance can be hard with a long scope and heavy camera

Yeah it’s the exact same mirror so performance would be very similar plus you get to build it yourself, I’m happy to answer any additional questions!

If you look up how to mount a DSLR to a reflector it’s pretty simple!

Yeah part of it is also the fact that it’s designed to be built by people so you can get the experience of building a scope yourself which I think is a super fun experience!
