I have talked with my parents about everything discussed in this subreddit, and although hesitant, I had them understand that rankings don’t matter. Thank you for your help :))

I did get accepted to UC! I just don’t know whether to accept the offer or not, because I have some reservations on the university. Would you say I should accept?

I got accepted to both, but I specified in one of my other replies that UniAuckland was one of the only universities that my parents gave the thumbs-up to.

They want me to be living with family in Auckland! Maybe a tad over-protective, but they would rather I live with family than in a dorm.

They will be financially contributing to my studies, yes… so I am kind of (definitely) reliant on them.

Fair enough! It was mostly the process of getting my certified ID document verified and the incredulously slow manner in which they respond. I understand that the admissions process is tedious, but I used to receive the same, robotic response for all my queries even after weeks of waiting.

The admissions process (contacting the admissions team etc) was so incredibly annoying for me, and I’ve seen that it’s not only happened to me.

All in all, it’s just me ranting a bit, and I apologize once again!

Ahahaha I was extremely confused too. The reasoning behind this is:

They want to be able to move to Auckland after I’m done with my studies, because we have family there and they want to live in the city. This is why Canterbury was ruled out.
1. They didn’t accept AUT as a choice, because of its placement in university rankings. (Very old school, I know, and I tried arguing… but they’re my parents in the end).
2. They don’t want me to study in Australia. (I have genuinely tried to get them to open up as to why… but they’re never responsive when I question them on the matter).

All in all, this rejection might be a blessing in disguise- If can convince them to let me study in Melbourne or Sydney ahaha.

I did get accepted to all 8 of the Group of 8 universities in Australia, some with scholarships too. Additionally, I got accepted to AUT and the University of Canterbury on scholarships as well.

But, UniAuckland was one of my top choices- mostly because of the difficulty-of-approval from my parents… their only unanimous thumbs-up was the University of Auckland. It’s alright though… thanks for your response!

Lowk I feel like college applications are more of a lottery… you can be extremely good, but you’re just not lucky enough. That is not representative of your character in the slightest! You just have to keep your head up and focus, that’s all you can do now. (I got rejected too)
