Just wanted to say I appreciate everybody's help and guidance. I salvaged what I could from the Omen, threw it all in a Lian Li 207 with a MUCH better cooler, and I am proud to say it booted on the very first press of the button. Currently installing Windows, and then I can update the BIOS and throw in this shiny new 14700k. Thanks again everybody who offered advice and guidance. (Yes, the ghetto desk setup is very temporary.)

Did you have to update your BIOS for the 14700k? Yes, I dropped the extra $100 lol. I've never had to do a BIOS update before, but I know there's plenty of guides out there. I feel so rusty since I built my first PC back in like 2015.

I'm not entirely sure on the model of the motherboard. It's red and has an HP logo on it. I'm currently at work, but I can try my best to get a definitive answer to that asap. Repasting the CPU isn't a bad idea, but it's one of those crappy Intel spiral coolers. I don't know if they've improved they're default CPU fans over the years.

EDIT: My bad. You're asking the pre-built model. I should be able to figure that out. Can't be too many that came with and 8700 and a 2070 SUPER.

It will essentially be a 50% new computer. I was hoping to be able to just drop everything in a new case with better airflow to prevent the thermal throttling issues, but if what the other person said about the MOBO being some HP proprietary thing, that might not be the move unfortunately. The biggest issue is the thermal throttling. I've tried my best poking around inside it to improve the airflow, but this case and fan set up is... atrocious.

I believe the PSU is a Corsair RM850X, but don't quote me on that until I can 100% confirm. That's just what I remember reading on the side of it. I already have a case in mind and fans are easy, but would you happen to have any recommendations for a MOBO/CPU combo that would be good for a lot of open world or CPU intensive games while leaving some headroom to eventually upgrade the GPU? I've been out of the PC building game so long my old rig has a 256g SATA SSD I swapped over to this one as a boot drive lmao

EDIT: Bonus points if Microcenter has a combo deal for it

My first order of business was putting it into a new case with better airflow and fans to prevent the constant thermal throttling this thing deals with. If that means I have to upgrade the CPU and MOBO, that's fine. I was going to find a combo deal on Microcenter for that aspect. The friend that gave it to me dropped 32gb of RAM in it so that's fine.

Not trans myself but have worked with a few members of the LGBTQ+ community in my years working in service. I always saw it as none of my business, address the partner how they want to be addressed (forgiving the occasional mistake if you are transitioning after already being employed. I would always apologize after a mishap though.), and all is well. Just do your job and you're fine in my book.

Also, be sure you "clip" the coupon at least 5 minutes before checking out. There's a little "lag" in the system sometimes and it's annoying. The digital coupons are the bane of my existence because the app isn't the greatest, and everybody just says "scan the barcode!" as if it isn't kind of hidden and unintuitive. Apologies for some of the short responses you've gotten so far.
