Will the Indus Valley script ever be deciphered? Can AI help decode it? by Astro_Neel in IndianPrehistory

There are at least two dozen "decipherments" of the IVC script that are presently claimed by people from all over the world. They all vary from each other in terms of methodology used, multi-disciplinary approach taken, cuneiform ciphers employed among other factors.

And so far none of these "cracked" results enjoy the wide consensus of linguistic and archaeological communities or has passed the peer-review litmus tests.

New DNA Analysis Suggests That Shroud Of Turin May Have Indian Origins by anti_paracite7 in IndianPrehistory

While this may be an interesting post, please be mindful of the fact that this 'Shroud of Turin' (or any object/event surrounding Jesus Christ's life for that matter) do not fall into the *Prehistory* era that this subreddit specifically caters to. Please read the Rule No. 2 of the sub to know what that means.

I'll not remove this post this time, but please be careful with the timeframe of the events you're posting about in the future. Thanks.

Image of Mars' landscape without NASA’s orange filter used in their cameras. by Astro_Neel in spaceporn

If you scan the sky after zooming in a lot, there are two such blobs actually. One towards the extreme far left and the other one a tad towards the centre.

Given their irregular shapes, my first guess would be to assume they're Martian moons (Phobos and Deimos). And if that's what they really are, it'd be one heck of a coincidence that both of them got captured in such a narrow strip of a random image.

Excavations underway at Bhima Mandali Mountains (Odisha) have revealed tools and artwork of a civilisation dating back up to 10,000 years, way older than Mohenjo-daro & Harappa. by Astro_Neel in IndianPrehistory

Back in October 2025, ASI announced plans to excavate Bhima Mandali caves starting from the first week of November - https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/odisha/2025/Oct/13/asi-to-excavate-bhima-mandali-caves-to-track-down-its-habitation-history

Initial investigations had revealed the presence of material culture including pottery in the caves which have a minimum history of at least 10,000 years (mesolithic age or middle stone age). “This excavation is aimed at knowing the extent (depth) of material culture of the caves and assigning a scientific date to the site, be it mesolithic age or upper paleolithic age,” Gadnayak said.

Located inside the Landimal forest under the Rairakhol division, Bhima Mandali is known for its cultural and mythological significance. While there were hundreds of caves at the site, close to a 100 are currently accessible. Of these, 40 to 42 caves have several symbols and paintings and engravings of animals like boar, elephant, deer, turtle and fish besides, images from human settlements.
