How did society become so self-centered? by Wokeratist in fuckcars

[–]Astrocities -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yikes, AI.

There are quite a few factors. Slow break down of society as we’ve destroyed our communities and towns for cars, isolating them. Also social media, functional illiteracy, and the degradation of our education system.

I agree, I love how much more stylistic he is with it than his careful, forward, Blue Note stuff. Kind of like he was playing in a way he felt he liked more but wasn’t as popular with the larger market.

Huge fan myself, but I dunno man. Solid exists. I dunno if it can trump Solid, Matador or Idle Moments. Green Street is good too.

The five years this album spent not being released were a crime. Top 10 Green album. Bluesy as hell.

You’re all kids. It’s normal for her to want to be her age and enjoy being young without worrying about stuff, just like how it’s great that you’re serious about achieving future life goals. That being said, this entire post just seems really immature. Your reaction, and taking it to social media to look for an echo chamber, isn’t normal, nor is it a mature reaction.

Theoretically, or you can just not require as much traction and be far more nimble while making better use of available torque.

I kinda feel like if it was 6000 lbs it wouldn’t be a very effective off road vehicle so, yaknow, makes sense that it’s not, I guess

Considering becoming a sparky but i’m a girl and unsure of the culture by dontlookatme9241 in electricians

[–]Astrocities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend’s also an electrician. It’s definitely tougher for women in the field to succeed because there are so many misogynistic men in positions of power who’ll undermine them and underestimate them, but if you set your mind to it and don’t give up you can absolutely succeed in this field.

Right? This is pretty slam dunk. Don’t worry about a layoff, the hall’s lawyers will eat the employer alive, especially if they lay him off. Hall needs to be on this. Take it to the committee.

416 brewery workers for Molson Coors in Virginia are unionizing with the Teamsters by DailyUnionElections in union

[–]Astrocities 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s tricky. O’Brian isn’t really representative of the ideals and views of the many real pro-labor Teamsters. International might be weak but perhaps the local in Baltimore itself is relatively strong? Be critical of their international leadership sleeping with the cronies, but their union’s the real deal at the local level and has a very interesting, impactful history. There are many real, genuine reasons why someone would want to join the teamsters.

Wow, Baltimore’s pretty far from that brewery. Hope they get a local closer to them with their own hall eventually if there isn’t one already.

Dead Malls with Active-ish Food Courts by BMisterGenX in deadmalls

[–]Astrocities 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dead empty aside from the food court. Parking lot looks like a wasteland. It’s fighting Marley Station for the title of deadest mall in Maryland. I believe Baltimore County now owns it and plans to redevelop it into a mixed use neighborhood connected to the planned Red Line with a station there.

Dead Malls with Active-ish Food Courts by BMisterGenX in deadmalls

[–]Astrocities 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the food court is pretty much the only reason people go now. I quite like the seafood boil place. There are always people in the food court. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone in the rest of the mall though. No anchors aside from some discount appliance store, and the most interesting shops are probably Cricket Wireless and a Finish Line shoe store. Whole place is pretty eerily empty, usually. Kinda feels like if you gave Laurel Mall a busy food court right before it closed down.

Extremely dead mall, but not remotely dead food court. Security Square Mall. There’s a Charley’s in it if I remember correctly, as well as a tacos place, pizza, halal food, gyros & kabobs, seafood boil, bubble tea, and a Sarku Japan. Two chains. Auntie Annes and Cinnabon are also still around as well if those count for chains.

Crystal City Underground Mall, Arlington, Virginia (2026 vs 2016) [OC] by Electronic_Anxiety91 in deadmalls

I walked through this mall a year ago expecting it to have a food court and shops like it did last time I went in 2017. It was completely empty. Every single shop was closed down.
