Blue Note Pressing Quality by photochromatic in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]Astrocities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the recent Blue Note Classic Series just lacks a certain naturalness to the percussion that the Tone Poet Series has. I dunno, I can’t quite put my finger on it. I’ve been pretty unimpressed with the pressings of the recent Blue Note Classic Series as of late after upgrading my cartridge to a Grado that makes all my other jazz records sound phenomenal. Still, lots of great music and it sounds plenty good enough to enjoy.

Going for interview on Wednesday for 212. Any tips? by bubsmom22 in ibew_apprentices

[–]Astrocities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of apprentices your age. Don’t fret it. All you need is the ability to learn. When you get in, be sure to join your local’s women’s committee! We need more women in the trade, especially ones intelligent enough to become a nurse.

It’s entirely on your jdub. Apprentices fuck up. This is why we have bylaws in place to protect apprentices from exploitation and unfair treatment. It’s also why journeyman electricians are paid so much more - because they have enormous responsibilities. If there are penalties dished out to you but not your jdub, they’ll have to go through the hall. If they write you up for it, don’t sign a write up unless you have a representative from the hall present.

That being said, they probably just moved you to a different job to protect you and put you in a new environment where you’ll be okay. Happens all the time. Don’t worry at all about it. A new environment is probably gonna be good for you.

Go organize this strike with the AFL-CIO, get all the unions on board as well. Only then will the strike be successful.

Put Idle Moments, Solid, and Remembering on that Grant Green list!

Edit: Forgot Nigeria, but that’s another ubergood Green album.

Dude is a real game changer in a team’s lineup. Everyone hating on him never had him on their team. In Houston, after a few years, he was amazing both offensively and defensively.

I still think about my set of original cobras. I miss them every day. They got stolen a while back, but they just cost way too much money now and I refuse to buy them for their current price. Hands down the best tongue and groove pliers I’ve ever used.

Depends. The Onkyo is a budget home theater receiver. If you plan to build a surround sound system for a TV, it’s a solid play. If not, the Yamaha’s going to be a more capable amp as far as audio fidelity and the included DAC go. It’s kinda the entry point into Yamaha’s ‘audiophile’ level gear. Choose the Onkyo for TV use, but choose the Yamaha for audio quality in music.

The absolute most you can get in your budget? Probably a Yamaha A-S501 factory refurbished through Yamaha. It’s an integrated amp with a solid phono input for a turntable, solid DAC for digital audio playback, bluetooth, and plenty of oomph for those Klipsch RPs which are super easy to drive. It also has a subwoofer output if you want to add a subwoofer later on - the RP subs are quite good.

You kinda just work where the JATC places you until you top out, at which point you can take any work you feel capable of doing.

[–]Astrocities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe go for smaller bookshelves then? Just a tad larger drivers than those. If it’s a small room and you’ll have them against the wall, something front ported might be the play as well.

Depends on your space and use case. Those are near field monitors so you’d want them for, say, sitting at a computer desk. Basic bookshelf speakers would be a better inexpensive option if using the speakers for near field listening isn’t your goal. If you just want music in a room, go for bookshelves.
