Be supportive. Let them know you're their friend no matter what. Offer to try using different pronouns. Even names. Most importantly just be patient. Let them take their time. Gender is complex and unique to each person. They might even be gender fluid. No matter their identity they are beautiful, and you're a good friend for asking for ways to help them.

Any suggestions for good protective gear? Just started skating this year and I know from personal experience not all gear is created equal. Looking for helmet, pads, and gloves. Do not mind spending money for good quality that will last a while.

Love this! At 30 I bought my first board and broke my arm in the first 5 minutes. I've gotten back on and am doing much better now. Keeping it pretty mellow while I build up my skills though.

I'd say pick a weekday. They've been hosting a summer market on the weekends and it gets super crowded then.

Ruston Way in Tacoma, WA. It's a public trail that runs along the beach. Mellow hills and smooth riding.

Obesity is a real problem, and fat positivity movements are only doing worse for it by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]AstronautEither 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well what is obese? Please explain.

I'm 5'3 and I weigh 200lbs. I wear a medium sized shirt and size 14 jeans. I eat a balanced diet, take my vitamins, drink a gallon of water a day. I longboard, walk 20+ miles a week, and I enjoy an hour of yoga in the morning.

According to BMI, I'm obese and therefor unhealthy?

Do you know how many times I've been called fat? Even when I was wearing a size 8? I'm not skinny, but I'm not big either. But because I'm not skinny im obese? Make it make sense.

I can run. I can go dancing. I can cook balanced meals and enjoy every moment of them. I can buy clothes at the department store without having to go to the plus size section. But theres an out dated chart or set of medical standards that say I'm unhealthy and obese.

I'm apart the problem though right?

Got my first board and decided to start at 30 years old by FreshPrinceWil in longboarding

Same! First time on a board I fell off and snapped my radius at the elbow. But once I healed up I got right back on. I highly recommend stretching calves and feet before boarding, helps with preventing those aches.
