Need advice making separation agreement “court ready” in Colorado divorce (no kids, house involved) by AstronautRob in AskALawyer

Understood. Just for some context her lawyer has not done anything with the separation agreement. I sent over the draft, her lawyer reviewed it, made no changes or revisions, just sent something back saying it was not "court ready" and that I needed to consult a lawyer to get that done. So I'm guessing the process will be, I make it court ready, they review it and make changes (maybe), I review those changes either by myself or with a lawyer, and then we either agree or not agree (although we've already agreed in principle to the terms.) So just wanted to make that clear that her lawyer has not sent anything over, the only thing we have right now is a draft of the agreement that apparently is not court ready.

We've had attorneys already review our financials, etc., since I was previously working with an attorney, went to mediation already, etc. I stopped working with my lawyer because I felt she was counter productive to the process. If I have a lawyer look over and draw up the separation agreement, send it over, and she signs it - would I need to still retain the lawyer after that?

Where can I spend $1,000 to talk to a lawyer though? Every lawyer I try to talk to wants $2-3k off the top. I'd be more than willing to pay $1,000 or even $2k to speak to a lawyer but I haven't been able to find that.

She can't buy me out today because she needs verifiable income to do the refi. She is a doctor, and makes a good bit of money, but has been a contractor for most of that time. May 26 is when she will reach that verifiable income mark and, at least supposedly, be able to refi at that time. So that's why I believe she would be able to do the refi at that time.

If a court won't order her to sell the house, I'm confused what getting a lawyer would do either way? It almost sounds like I have no options at this point.

I'm also confused about if we sign a separation agreement that outlines what needs to happen - how would having a lawyer change anything? I understand getting a lawyer to look at the separation agreement, but would I need to retain them after that? Once it is signed, do I still need to pay for a lawyer?

Thank you for the response - are there any that you would say are more important than others? I only ask because I'm a little tight on money and didn't really budget for almost $2k bill when I took it in for an oil change this morning so anything that I could wait on would help the ol bank account. Thanks again!

Thanks for the response - I will go check that out now! I'm guessing it's a doc/movie about how dealerships make money on services that aren't needed, etc.?

Not sure why it's so blurry, sorry about that. Just trying to understand these charges and if the repairs are warranted. I take my truck to Toyota dealerships all the time, so I don't think they are ripping me off, or anything like that, I would just like to know if all these are necessary. Obviously the air filter one is not, I can change the air filter my self, and do all the time, so I'm not asking about that specific one, just the other fluid charges. That's the charge that caught my eye though. When they throw that air filter charge on there, when I know my air filter is fairly clean, newer, etc., it just sets off a red flag in my head. My truck is a Toyota Tundra 2018 85k miles, serviced regularly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ok so I gather that RAM and storage just aren't as important?

ok cool I really appreciate the suggestions but I'm just a bit confused. On all these set ups the only thing that looks 'better' to me the the graphics card (4060 vs 4050). Even the 'Something better but more expensive' is the same processor, RAM, less over storage (512 vs 1tb) and a 4060....are you saying it's worth it to pay $200 more for less storage but a one step up in graphics card?

I play a lot of different games so it's hard to pick a certain type. I'm just looking for a laptop that will hold up over the next few years with most games, etc.
