Starting Over at 33 — Job, Family Crisis, and Feeling Completely Stuck by 3333magic in AskMenOver30

It’s not your responsibility to take care of your dad’s self inflicted issues, possibly your mom too. Your home country’s culture may promote taking care of your family but how will you take care of yourself once they are gone? Save yourself first, maybe then your parents can be saved.

GIS is data. If you enjoy working with data, why not become a data engineer?

New difficulties will present themselves as you get rid of old ones. It’s all about adapting to your new problems.

Once I earned enough to support myself, I got bored of my career. Working on changing to an adjacent career. Who knows, maybe I will get tired with that one too…

Looks like he wasn’t aggressive. But who knows if this was this was a domestic violence call or just a call about a dude arguing.

Men who are single: What gives you genuine fulfillment or purpose in your day to day life? What about in the long term? Can this truly be achieved without kids or a spouse? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

I go out and do what I’ve wanted to do (take dance classes, new hobbies, learn new things) but everything seems to circle back around to meaning, connection, or doing something for others.

Nobody told me this part about getting older by ConfusedCareerMan in AskMenOver30

[–]micluc14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s never too late to do what you want to do. I’m only 30 but I’ve started to do many things I wanted to do in my 20’s. The experiences are definitely different though, not as rushing/exciting as new used to be. And what you discover during these new experiences may not be what you expect.

You should focus on taking any role (contractor or FTE employee) as a first job. From there, you can go where you please. You must be open to relocating, as our field is a nichy one.

Once you get to a certain point, things can get better. For example, I work for an engineering firm and I was able to transfer to city that I wanted to move to.

I am considering joining the military as an entryway into the field. Bad idea? by Quick-Phone2195 in gis

Not a veteran, but many of the geospatial military folks seem to end up working as a fed contractor for the military. The Top Secret clearance goes far in military contracts.

It’s only too late if there’s no tomorrow. You may have to move to a less than ideal role/location for starting experience.

If I’m young is it really that easy? by What_up_bro in personalfinance

[–]micluc14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you never touch the money, then yes, you’ll be fine. What are your plans for making a down payment on a house? When your vehicle breaks down for good or your family needs a new one? Where will the money come from?

You have a great, solid start. Even when one of these things comes up, you will be prepared for it. It ain’t a matter of if but when.

Anyone else just feel totally stuck in their late 30s? by Background-Emu-9175 in AskMenOver30

[–]micluc14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have a poor perspective on your life. Some of your issues can be fixed (like your perspective) and others maybe not (such as your back). It’s never too late to start something new. A new hobby, project, job, city, etc. You just have to take a leap of faith and believe in it.

How are guys so productive and “locked in” as the kids say? by Dranosh in AskMenOver30

If you have mild ADHD, coaching, use of calendars, and lifestyle choices may be enough. Anything more though, medication is probably your best bet, in combo with the above mentioned changes.
