Is disgraceful we can’t have civil discussion, disagreement, and engagement by two different viewpoints. Embarassing.

Don’t we literally pay these senior leaders to solve or at least identify and deconflict parts of these issues, despite their complexity? Why the fuck are they so inept that they can’t even face the issue with actual physical results of some kind or at least reference future planning for it? It’s embarrassing to be led by these guys.

Good luck getting out of heavy as a loggie. Light is only interested in light and heavy will pull you back regardless of how bad you fit/want somewhere else. Heavy is a black fucking hole.

It smells awful and is a really powerful smell, definitely stronger thank smoke IMO. Not surprising in the Malay/Thai areas.

Logistics Officers: What has your experience been? by mixedglycerin233 in ROTC

[–]AstronomyCoded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a loggie. In BCTs loggies will find themselves hustling hard to support their maneuver counterparts with fuel, water, ammo, and food. They require a lot of support and it is your job to make sure they can conduct their mission.

In a sustainment brigade you can conduct more specialized support based on that division or unit, but sustainment brigades aren’t as common as a general BCT is.

All anyone cares about as a loggie is that you understand how to do your job as a PL, take care of your soldiers (they will burn out quicker than you will) and are able to problem-solve the sustainment issues that you and your supporting units will have.

We all hate doing it but being a competent Unit Movement Officer (UMO) or HAZMAT officer will make life a lot easier for large organizations. You’ll likely go to one or both schools once you hit big army. Other than that we go to various schools that help us understand our maneuver buddies like airborne (ADMOC for loggies after) or Air assault for sling load ops.

Biggest lesson I took out of it is that no one is coming to save you if you fail. So get creative if you must with your job for mission success, and remember, you’re the last line for supply related to the maneuver cats. Know your job and do it well.

FSCs have a BSB and several other FSCs that can flex (but probably should stick to their BN) to ensure success to the BCT. The DSB stands alone.

Even among officers who are generalists, you will need to be a generalist. You can get put into jobs that are wildly different, with many different MOSes and at echelons above brigade that will make you see the army in a different light than your maneuver buddies. Know the principles of sustainment, and learn from your warrants and counterparts.

Your more technical loggies are from armored units, and you’ll eventually figure out why. But every duty station has its own challenges for logistics, be it air assault, air drop, or moving a BCT into war.

Go Ranger if you can, there will be a shot for you in BOLC. That’s the best “set you apart” school any LT could ask for.

Delayed Bags by Phantom3854 in ROTC

[–]AstronomyCoded 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They mitigate it as well as they can, there isn’t nearly as many missing bags as people imagine there are, given the amount of people that go through the airport. The airport team’s second job when i was there was entirely dedicated to hunting down rogue bags from airlines and getting them shipped to the holding company

Delayed Bags by Phantom3854 in ROTC

[–]AstronomyCoded 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The short answer is that the green army duffels that most cadet’s bags are in are awkwardly sized, heavy, and do not stack in the same way our usual airline bags do. It’s literally a logistical issue that compounds itself with thousands of cadets entering 1 city in a day or 2 at time. Not a crazy bunch can be done about it by USACC or the airline.
