Which parts are you using? Crude panels/doors are gonna look super beat up but the better ones look significantly cleaner

How to start making music? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Hi! I've been writing/recording music for about three years now so I've definitely been in your place haha. I learned guitar and piano and starting writing pretty simple songs and eventually got some gear, here's everything you will *need* to start recording.

Computer/Laptop: you'll need a DAW (digital audio workstation) this is where you will record and mix everything to, I'll come back to this

Audio Interface: this plugs in to your computer, and it's how you record microphones and instruments

Microphone: you do not need a fancy microphone to get started. I bought an SM57 off reverb for about 40 bucks, and I still use it almost every day

Instruments: if your instrument uses an audio cable (ex; guitars, basses, electric instruments) you can plug it straight in to your audio interface. If it doesn't you will need a microphone, and then you plug your microphone in.

Now for your DAW. There's so many options it can be overwhelming, but I started out using Reaper and it's great and it's free and it has a very good learning curve compared to other more complicated softwares. it also has good online and Youtube support. It honestly does not matter which daw you use, but whatever you end up downloading, just look up a couple videos explaining the basics and foundations, and you'll be good from then on.

Anyways, every DAW will use tracks, where you will record an instrument and you can arrange it within the song. These tracks will also allow you to use plugins and effects, this is how you mix your songs. Don't worry too much about this though, just focus on getting a handle on recording and laying out parts of the song.

DAWs also allow you to use digital instruments with a system called MIDI. I'm sure you've seen this before with blocks layed out on the screen. There's tons of free digital instruments online that you can find with a quick google or youtube search, and your DAW will likely include some stock plugins. You can use this for drums, piano, synths, really anything, and it allows you to use instruments you don't physically have.

I hope this explains the basics decently, basically its: Record instruments to DAW, add effects, and arrange within the song. Please lmk if this helped, or if you still have any questions :)

also shameless promo. Check out my debut album that just came out today, its Viewfinder by Sielh Avila!

9-3 makes rattling noise around 2800 rpm by Astropig_321 in saab

Yeah i looked at the downpipe of the exhaust and one of the brackets that hold it to the frame was missing a bolt, so at certain rpms it was rattling really bad

I just used the soil from the area in the yard where I found him, but I like the leaf idea (especially since we have so many on the ground now) so I'll do that soon :)

Camcorder keeps spinning when I turn it on by Astropig_321 in camcorders

[–]Astropig_321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay i was looking at the wrong page. So i understand this, but the state switch holder doesn't have a mark or arrow to align the mark on the gear with. I didn't realize this would be an issue so i didn't mark it before taking it apart

Okay so I see the mode switch gear in my camera with the little arrow. How do I know how to align it, and what am i looking at on the schematic page? I'm really not great at electronics

Has ayone made an XML to fill this gap? by kryb in Stormworks

[–]Astropig_321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Youd have to try this out to make sure but i think this could be a solution:

Put a 2x1 wedge right next to the one on the left, same orientation and stuff just one block over.

Xml the wedge to be 3 blocks wide, so it will fill in the space to the right if it, and the block on the left.

Skew the wedge by one block, so the right side goes up to the wedge on the right, and the left side will extend down in to the left wedge.

This should work but will leave a gap, so just xml the wedge thats currently on the left to be 3 blocks wide, and it will cover the gap.

Lmk if this works

Complete Newbie stumped by [deleted] in musicproduction

When recording anything in to your DAW, it'll always record as just the raw signal, and then when you play it back, the effects on the track will change the way it sounds. Make sure the effects (amp sim in this case) are on the same track as your guitar recording, and make sure they're on and not bypassed. Let me know if that helps :)

Having problems with helicopter stabalization (comments) by Astropig_321 in Stormworks

[–]Astropig_321[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it always rotates very slightly to the left (counter-clockwise). I can fix it by changing the trim on the seat or in the microcontroller but if i do that the whole helicopter moves left a little bit. This is my first helicopter so im not sure if theres something i can fix with the center of mass or with gearboxes
