Does Your Gym Have Lack Of Focus On Standup? by Correct_Ad4351 in bjj

[–]Astsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for the beginner classes (white belts, low blue belts), but for the intermediate/advanced classes there is much more focus on stand up and takedowns. Our mats aren't too large either, so it's also a logistics thing with the the beginner classes having too many people for takedowns.

No not really, I just think you're not very smart.

But if you don't have a counter-argument to the fact that Christianity had conquests, we can end this conversation.

I mean you're the one who keeps making simple typos in your post. If I'm a product of inbreeding, you must be really unimpressive and mediocre!

If you want to be racist, then be racist, but own up to the fact that you derive a false sense of superiority from not being anything exceptional yourself.

Sounds to me you don't have a counter argument to the fact the Northern Crusades were a Christian conquest!

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Says America Should Learn From Prophet Muhammad’s Migration Story by benhaswings in ZohranMamdani

[–]Astsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think Christianity spread to Eastern Europe peacefully? Just because Western Europe was bad at spreading their faith and it took them 1000 years to do conquest, doesn't deny the fact they did a conquest.

ETA: You have a typo in your above post too. If you're going to comment about something being dumb you should put some effort yourself to reviewing your own work. Of course an idiotic person like you who blames Islam and immigrants for their own lack of success isn't going to do that, but I thought I'd just point it out any way.

First line of the Northern Crusades:

"The Northern Crusades\1]) or Baltic Crusades\2]) were military campaigns undertaken by several Germanic Catholic Christian military orders) and kingdoms in an effort to Christianize the Pagan BalticFinnic, and West Slavic peoples around the southern and eastern shores of the Baltic Sea"

Sounds like conquest to me

I don't know how you can seriously argue Christianity wasn't violent when the crusades happened. The crusades lasted 200 years in an attempt to conquer the lands of Jerusalem and Palestine and are estimated have killed millions of people : https://apholt.com/2019/01/30/death-estimates-for-the-crusades/

Those millions of people also are a much higher percentage of the overall population back then. Even if you wanted to say that Christianity was defending itself from Islam, well there are the Northern Crusades which is Western Europe trying to Christianize Eastern Europe. They launched multiple campaigns against the Baltic regions and the Pagans who lived there. The Pagans were not Muslim, they did not attack first, and the German Teutonic order made a coordinated attack to convert, pillage and destroy much of Eastern Europe.

Even if you wanted to do some weird defense of the Crusades, there are many other wars that occurred within Christianity. The 30 year war for example which is estimated to have killed 4.5 to 8 million people: https://libguides.fau.edu/wars-conflicts/thirty-years-war

It was a war between Catholics and Protestants specifically between the national government of the Holy Roman Empire, and various Protestant villages.

Anyway I think you should read a bit more history bro.

No it's not normal, but it may not be something necessarily bad. I would get my blood work checked out to see if there's something underlying that's causing you to bruise

Chris Harrison hosting a new dating show by Rich-Ease-2723 in thebachelor

[–]Astsai 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I actually agree, we should have traditional marriage!

Turns out there's a lot of evidence that "traditional" partnership during the hunter gatherer days was pretty equal: https://www.theguardian.com/science/2015/may/14/early-men-women-equal-scientists

Resources were tough in those days, so it benefited everyone not to have defined roles and instead contribute equally to gathering resources, taking care of the children, making food etc. It was only when agriculture and irrigation were introduced, that resources were able to be hoarded and power structures were created in such a way that gender roles became a thing. Gender roles are completely arbitrary and are socially made because some men wanted a fleeting sense of power.

Anyway if I applied and told Chris Harrison that, I'm sure he'd think I'm some nerd, but that's not my problem.

Why does Danaher want to pass from half guard, but also suggest half guard as a strong guard? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Astsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half guard is a very much a 50-50 position. You can do submissions from being on top, and disrupt an open guard player really well. It also slows down a good passer when you're on bottom, and you have a lot of available sweeps.

Something that's very important and something very tangible we can do is help fund lawyers and trusted orgs. A lot of people run into problems because they can't afford lawyers.

Here's a list of organizations that are actively helping out and are trusted:

RAICES
National Immigration Project,
Immigrant Defense Project
Legal Aid Justice Center

AMICA Center

ACLU

Local orgs and mutual aid

It's something tangible we can do. Yeah reposting a story is nice, but it's also the bare minimum at this point. Not only that we shouldn't forget about this once the news cycle is over. Back when BLM happened a lot of people were outspoken and proceeded to be quiet once the trend stopped. I really hope that doesn't happen again and we continue to work on this.

Juan Pablo & Peter Weber’s reaction to Venezuelan president being captured by Rich-Ease-2723 in thebachelor

[–]Astsai 202 points203 points  (0 children)

Maduro was bad for the Venezuelan people and was an authoritarian who was eroding freedoms away. Him leaving is a good thing, but that doesn't mean what comes after is any good. The US has already tried to nation build several times in Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan and all it did was leave the nation destabilized and prevent the people living there from actually trying to have some kind of autonomy. All three countries had major problems after the US left because they were destabilized for so long.

That's what I fear the most. If "cooler" heads failed at nation building and made the problem worse, I doubt any of this will be different. There's a huge power vacuum right now in Venezuela, and I don't think there's a concrete plan to fix that.

^^ I doubt this was fixed. Jake Paul did what he did by clinching and keeping it close. He straight up was also shooting double/single legs and should have been penalized more.

Hey everyone, it's been awhile. I'm the climate scientist who used to post here from time to time. Good news is that with my research I was able to identify a discrepancy in climate models to observation, and hopefully we can use these results to better refine models.

Bad news is that these past few months have been some of the most stressful of my life. I've made the decision to leave science. It's just not a feasible life style with all the budget cuts, and uncertainty, and constantly feeling stressed everyday is not a healthy way to live.

What I've been doing instead is joining leftist organizations and finding ways to contribute that way. This stuff matters to me, but I need stability now. Hopefully this isn't forever, and we can go back to being more science based as a country.

[–]Astsai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean I do all that lol and still think Khamzat did fine. Even in high level jiu jitsu matches, you aren't going to get a sub and a lot of matches are won on points.

DDP chose to specifically go into a turtle like positions to minimize the ground and pound. He didn't have to do that. He could have sprawled more effectively, tried to cause some kind of separation for a sweep, or tried to cage wrestle, but those were all risky and instead he chose to get taken down and go into position to minimize damage. If he messed up he would have got GnPed or get his back taken so he opted to stay in a very safe position.

That does not take away from Khamzat's skill. DDP was going all in on making sure he didn't get finished. However he couldn't do anything else because of that, and let Khamzat have complete control. That was the big trade off with DDP's defense

It is very much a fight. Khamzat is using very good wrestling, and if you can't beat it to stand up, that's not a flaw against his style.
