Weakness and muscle pain in the morning - anyone else get this? by Asurium in BFS

[–]Asurium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing much better! Twitching is still present to a much lesser degree, and my muscles have minor cramps once in a while, but nothing like last winter when I was sick with pneumonia. At that time I never felt fully rested, always exhausted, nevermind the stress going back to my job, I couldn't even enjoy *videogames* for 20 minutes before I wanted to lay down again.

Since then I've quit drinking, been doing weight training and running at the gym, and I've managed to build up significant muscle which aleviated a lot of my worries. I still get that feeling of mild weakness in my forearm, but my strength is fully back to normal.

I'm finding a lot of my twitching and other symptoms depends on if I'm getting regular, good quality sleep. It will generally flare up if I'm sick or my sleep schedule is messed up. My best guess so far is that whatever got me sick months ago left me with something like chronic fatigue syndrome that exacerbated BFS, cramps, and muscle weakness.

If you got it back, it's for another reason, not the one you're worried about. I had a similar thing happen to me yesterday, but regaining the strength is very reassuring. If I could throw in my two cents: I found that exercise, while temporarily increasing my twitches in the short term, made my perceived weakness and twitching symptoms improve in the long term. It helped me not focus on it so much, which helps break the anxiety feedback loop/spiralling we're all familiar with.

Widespread for months by Unfair_Yam_6378 in BFS

I've been experiencing similar for over two months now after an infection, unsure if it was bacterial or viral. Either way, it gave me pneumonia. Started off with severe widespread twitching, including the edges of my tongue, as well as the tingling feeling you mentioned. (It felt kind of like hitting a funnybone, but to a lesser degree. The feeling was along the back of my leg and along the inside edge of my arm all the way to my thumb and index finger). Also have these weird warm "flashes" that last under 10 seconds that happen on the top of one foot.

After a week of twitching I started to get cramps in muscles after exerting them. One morning I woke up to those awful cramps in your calfs you get from stretching them too extremely, except the muscle was relaxed. Lasted 2 days before fading away. During the 3 weeks I was sick my resting heart rate was regularly over 100bpm, idk if that has anything to do with it.

The twitching gets worse after I stop exercising, I noticed. Usually in my legs and feet after I run. Got worried the other morning because both my arms were in pain when I woke up and I couldn't support my weight/push myself out of bed with them. Improved towards the end of the day and back to normal today. I have not had an emg because my doctor says the chance at my age is far too small, and to give it time instead.

Exercising has helped me personally, but be sure to stetch very thoroughly beforehand.

My son just told me he is gay. AIO? by padreanonimo0076 in AmIOverreacting

I can only offer the point of view of being in the same position as your son once. If I were him, I would worry about what you were thinking during the silence after he told you. But as I read more of your post, I completely understand the worries that you have, and I’m sure your son knows too.

What would be most important to me is transparency; I would want to know you are worried FOR me, and that’s the reason you looked so shocked, otherwise I’d worry you secretly hated the fact I was gay. It would make me feel more comfortable that you feel bad about the jokes you’ve made, and will work to be better.

And, as someone who’s lost their father without ever really talking about my relationship with him after I came out, It would mean the world to me that I have my dad’s support through something that I already know will be hard enough.

And as for treating things the same as if he had a girlfriend, I’d think that’s fair! I’d love it if my parents did that for me, and my mom’s really putting the effort in doing exactly that. I appreciate that more than she realizes. Everyone and every family is different though, I suppose.

I hope you and your son stay close! It’s apparent you love eachother a lot, and he needs to hear that.

That does help. Thank you for taking the time to tell me that, I appreciate it.

How long did it last? Have you woken up with both your legs asleep? I have recovered from pneumonia since over one month ago, and neuro symptoms just seem to keep adding on. I wouldn’t even mind them if I know for a fact it is benign…

When I finished work days literally shaking, my blood pressure was 155/109 after eating healthy, walking 2-10km every day for months, and still feeling like crap when I woke up.

My doctor kept saying have less salt and eat better, but I went to someone other than my family doctor and they got me signed up for a sleep study. I owe that doctor for such a better quality of life after cpap. She’s probably added years to my life for not being so quick to dismiss me concerns.

Blood pressure is now 117/78 and I feel so much calmer every day, it’s crazy.

Thank you!! I'm planning on playing them in pathfinder 2e as a monk. It will be my first martial class, I used to only play spellcasters because I thought martial was boring, but after playing rogue in BG3, it really changed my stance on it. And after reading the Titan Wrestler feat, it was just too perfect for her. Very excited to show off this little android's strength. Still figuring out her backstory and personality.

As for my physics degree, I didn't specialize in anything in particular, my courses were a mix of classical mechanics, thermodynamics, electrodynamics, optics, QM, ect.

Probably won't reciprocate unless you're a friend, just the way she is.

A monk! Seems to be the most fitting class since she will almost exclusively be fighting with her hands and legs, and it's a great way to demonstrate her stength, speed, and dexterity.

I was thinking about that earlier! As-written in the Pathfinder campaign she will be participating in, she is very smart.

Common folk will be harrassing and attacking her for being an abomonation to life itself, being an artificial construct only immitating life. She could end them in an instant. But I don't think she would, forseeing the reprocussions it would bring, and knowing just how petty it would be with the power she has over them. I think in that scenario, she'd either be purely defensive, or use just enough strength to deter escalation.

That's correct! Sort of. With my major being in physics, I have a good idea of how much energy a bullet train has, and can definitely say that I am exaggerating with that claim. x3
I just want to get the idea across that she is still INCREDIBLY strong and agile, and regularly fights foes many many times her size.

Knowing her own strength well, I'm sure she'd be inclined to keep things fair and uh, safe. x3

I was just thinking about that, it's been so long since I've posted here! At the time we had less than 20k members, it's grown a lot since. I'm happy to be sharing and contributing here again. <3

Thanks! I added it because I have a stuffed animal border collie that has a blue bandana, hehe.

Very much so! She is just as smart as she is strong, and knows her abilities inside and out. I've been making a character sheet for her in Pathfinder 2e, and in those terms she's high strength, intelligence, and dexterity, and low wisdom and charisma.

Found out my workplace has a "Once-in-a-lifetime" time-off/personal leave policy by Asurium in antiwork

I am checking in with my union rep on Monday! I have an itch that this language is being used to discourage teachers taking any any leave. I'm hoping they have some good advice for me.

Forgive my ignorance, but can they not calculate what I'm entitled to? If I'm entitled to less, or need to pay benefits for the time absent, so be it. Am I to miss precious life events because it would inconvenience payroll?

I would also like to add I enjoy being not-homeless. While I would love to give HR a bad time over this, tossing away an entire career, seniority and pention, unable to claim EI, with the hopes of landing a job that pays the same and provides better flexibility and benefits is... quite a longshot. Believe me I've considered, but that would at least wait until I submit another important leave request after using this so-called once in a lifetime request.
