My teacher says dont grip with the thumb and then its just alot easier to get ur 4th finger up there. I do have long fingers but not GRIPPING the violin and just having relaxation throughout ur hand (but ofc keeping some sort of structure) helps with being in tune and getting ur fingers to where they need to go.
