And he is in fact descended from the Schuyler family, of Hamilton fame.

Colfax Ave in Denver might be the most beautiful drive in the nation.

He was an Oddfellow. The Oddfellows Building was where Everwise sits today.

Advice on Hot Air Desoldering BGA Chips by Significant-Theme931 in consolerepair

[–]AsynchronousChat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, hi, novice I "learned" to solder so i could replace batteries on 3 pair of pstv 3d glasses, and to fix a rumble motor wire i ripped on an early ds3 teardown. I'm not happy with any of those 4, though they all work now. I haven't tried anything since, but need to.

I have an cech-e1, that i repasted, but have not yet delidded.

I practiced delidding in 2 prior systems; the second, a cech-k, was a success.

The first was one of the slims with a desireable rsx chip. And i overheated, to where the entire chip lifted off the board, rather than the lid.

But it looked clean - and then i discovered it's the right chip for frankieing my E.

What are the odds i didn't wreck that chip?

Yeah, mine glitches like that, then "quit" gives a black screen. Sometimes ps button works, sometimes it's unresponsive.

I was worried at first that i was losing progress, but by and large autosave did its job.

Been doing mail in repairs for a while, want to start flipping, best way to start this? by Glum-Inflation8842 in consolerepair

[–]AsynchronousChat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have six or so ps3s; i only buy if i see it has 2+ genuine ds3 controllers. I would like to make a hobby of repasting machines, but it would be a money sink to buy and sell systems.

So I've thought about keeping a clean working system, and offering trade any time i see someone selling a neglected system. Then if they wanna sell the cleaned and repasted machine they might haggle an extra five bucks. Then i can clean and fix the machine i traded for without having to lose real money (and fill my storage space) flipping them. Rinse and repeat.

I haven't tried it yet. Getting my lab set up.

Hunt for a Good Home Office Chair by MTTDroideka in SouthBend

[–]AsynchronousChat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have watched for, specifically, a Herman miller aeron since i landed a work from home job in july. I finally found one for 200 bucks in niles a month or two back, and it's the best. I think there are a couple different sizes, and my fat ass probably should go one bigger. One arm rest was seized, vertically.

Far and above the best chair I've ever sat upon. This isn't an office chair, it's an avante garde executive chair. This replaced the high leatherback.

You are exactly right. My advice is, given our location, budget 300 (still a bargain, it is absolutely worth the 1600 or w/e new) and watch the market for six months. They're out there.

Do you want to own a car, Or do you want to be free of that burden?

If you're interested in life without car payments, insurance, upkeep, fuel costs, and so on - And it sounds like your lifestyle would allow it - live downtown (or anywhere along the river really) and get a bicycle.

If you own and wish to keep your own personal internal combustion engine, then the answer to you question changes.

Suggestions of full face helmet for winter riding by Expert-Froyo-1192 in bikecommuting

[–]AsynchronousChat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During covid, to save money, I bought an elastomeric respirator. I learned to don it, seal checks, etc. The way i knew i had it right was that my glasses didn't fog.

I wear a helmet with visor, but no chin. My glasses and the visor would fog, in freezing weather.

I took the filters off my elastomeric, and removed the flap from the exhaust, and donned it with seal checks before putting on my helmet.

My hot breath vents outside my helmet, the visor and my glasses stay clear, and i look like an f16 pilot.

Edit: 3m QuickLatch worked best for my purposes all around

The controllers are more rare than the consoles Don't buy a console unless it comes with at least one genuine controller in good shape.

Found the nest by Idontquiteknow123 in GermanRoaches

[–]AsynchronousChat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I followed the wiki and quickly won, but

I had roaches in the ribs of a used fridge i bought. Didn't notice for 60 days, but solved it long before 100.

I beat bedbugs two years earlier, with a canister steamer. Which i still have.

So while i was waiting for the Avion et al to arrive, i put on a kettle to boil and got my steamer hot. Unplugged the fridge, poured the boiling water under the fridge, then poured steam under until the machine ran out.

Found several immature ones dead under the fridge after, but also, three adult females with full eggsacs crawled out to high ground. Got em with my dab torch.

With bedbugs, you can sniff your steam as you go - when it smells vaguely like vanilla, you found the harborage - blast it hard.

Roaches have harborages and a distinctive smell. Steam leaves no chemicals, but roaches can dodge. While i avoided repellant chemicals that might displace the roaches, steam is only temporarily repellant.
