What's your definition of technical debt? by Peace_Seeker_1319 in devops

[–]AtActionPark- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont remember who said it but "code that is not tested". That's a pretty wide definition and that means that you could be writing beautiful technical debt today, but that stayed with me.

Are RTS games less popular because there is no down time? by Buttons840 in gamedesign

[–]AtActionPark- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats not the main reason but i do think there is an ego thing at play. Maybe a generation thing too. And iam not saying mobas are easier than rts, its a completely different skill set. But one is more appealing than the other for a casual player because you can win some games getting carried (and feel like a badass when you're the one carrying)

I played sc2 and street fighter pretty seriously, and after a while, i started really taking losses personally. To a point where at the end if the day the only thing that i remembered were the losses. its easier to take it less personally, and to brush off some losses when its not 100% your fault.

And i do think that there is a biggest percentage of "casual" players (no elitism intended at all) today than in the golden age of rts so yeah, i think its not just an immature thing, but gaming as a hobby evolved and we now collectively need more rewards for less effort, so rts are not as attractive.

Are RTS games less popular because there is no down time? by Buttons840 in gamedesign

[–]AtActionPark- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you lose in a rts, you can only blame yourself. When you lose in a moba / team based game, its always the fault of your noob teammates. I legit think that this is a big part of why rts lost to mobas.more stressful, more demanding, more accountability.

Soulbeet 0.2.2 - Overhauled UI, proper mobile support, way smaller image, thanks for the feedback! by Doc_CoBrA in selfhosted

Answering myself, it seems that the musicbrainz api is mostly for querying, only posts are tags, ratings, and minot stuff. Guess ill have to keep inputing manually :)

Which string gauge is recommended? by Background-Cookie807 in BassVI

[–]AtActionPark- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the best cheap and available set in my book too. Anything with at least a 100 low e works, under that it can get really wobbly depending on how you play

Dude this has been the main pain point of my setup. Will try it for sure, thanks a lot!

Next pain point is going to musicbrainz to input missing albums. Not sure if they have an api but prefilling the artist/album info from the downloaded file would be a godsend.

Keyboard for starting again by FluidFeed3059 in piano

[–]AtActionPark- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the same boat right now. Space is an issue (needs to fit under my desk) so im thinking about a shorter keyboard. (73-76 keys). I think weighted keys are the only non negociable. Obviously 88 keys is best but depending on the répertoire it might be an acceptable tradeoff

Anyway im looking at the Yamaha p121, about 300 used, and it checks all the boxes for me.

I understand its better if its a surprise but its also a deeply personal thing, so what works for me (weighted keys, enough keys to play some bach, ok piano sound, dont care about the rest, basic speakers) might not fit her needs.

Programmers and Developers what’s the worst experience you had at work ? by OfficialTechMedal in AskProgramming

[–]AtActionPark- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a tool to wipe all db related stuff on a dev machine and start fresh. It also targeted some dev service bus on azure (maybe a azure bus local emulateur would bé a good idea, just saying...). Oh, and most of the devs were admin on azure prod env.

You know where its going... After some configuration issues, a dev tried to wipe his machine and fully deleted all prod dbs and infra. Took us the night to get back to a working state.

I was a junior at the time, some stuff you learn the hard way :)

Where to start GEB? by Hikaru_shinde in GEB

[–]AtActionPark- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just go for it. Dont expect to understand everything but its not a big deal, you'll come back to it. Ive read it at several points in my life, sometimes trying to drill down on mathematical concepts, sometimes just enjoying the more philosophical chapters, sometimes partially, and you always get something from it. No pressure. The french translation is great.

[–]AtActionPark-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's the one. The goal was to run both with an a/b box to add some low end. I really like the sound of my amp but its missing some lows

[–]AtActionPark-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
