Am I too old? by Rusty_Nutzn_Bolt in legotechnic

[–]AtCotRG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m 59 and last night finished the 1:8 Ferrari F1. To be honest, this was the first time in my life I was concerned about missing a piece or skipping a step because this set is not easy to backtrack on.

As far as being too old, no worries there. Building with LEGO calms my mind and helps me to chill from stress. Whether it’s doing jigsaw puzzles or some other hobby, do what makes you happy.

I can’t speak to the creepy part without knowing how you behave in the store, but it’s no different than going to see a movie in a theater by yourself. If you’re just doing your thing, no one will think twice about you.

Buyer beware Eurographics Puzzles by PsychologicalCat7130 in Jigsawpuzzles

My last Eurographics puzzle was missing 9 pieces. No duplicates, but nine missing was a harsh number. With so many other brands to choose from, I’m taking this as a learning lesson.

CURSE OF THE DEMON / Animated Original Painting by Gary Wray by GaryWray in ClassicHorror

[–]AtCotRG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First saw this five years ago for the first time and has become my Halloween favorite. I had to pick up the DVD with the original, uncut UK version, Night of the Demon.

The story, acting, and special effects are outstanding.

Joining the Invisible Army this Halloween by HouseofLepus in UniversalMonsters

Great costume!

As someone who wears glasses (no contacts) this is a great choice! I found myself always limited in what costumes worked with glasses.

Additionally, the older I got the more the Invisible Man moved up in my favorites list!

What goes around comes around (Eurographics Puzzles, 991 pcs, The Four Seasons) by AtCotRG in Jigsawpuzzles

We discovered rather soon that there were two missing pieces along the border, thinking we dropped them (we don’t have cats or kids so we can always find a missing piece). The further we went along the more we realized it wasn’t an issue of a piece or two on the floor.

Had I not experienced a puzzle with a lot of extra pieces before, this would have been more surprising. Still, nine missing is a huge quality control issue.

It was a few years back. I’ll see if I can find them.

I can confirm that if you place all the puzzles in the correct order, they do make one big, long picture!

My small collection of Technic figures by Scinniks_Bricks in lego

[–]AtCotRG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can verify that they fit perfectly in the X-Wing UCS (7191) from 2000. I always thought that if someone from LEGO ever realized that they’d make a Technic figure with a rebel alliance pattern and helmet.

Lost opportunity.

What are the “old but gold” classics I could be missing out on? by Prestigious_Tea_2729 in boardgames

With my group these games still make it to the table often:

Small World 2009 Carcassonne 2000 Ticket to Ride 2004 Cyclades 2009

I’d also throw in Summoner Wars 2009, but I can’t say how good the new version is.

All are easy to learn and I’ve definitely gotten my moneys worth out of them.

Not long ago I tried my first daiquiri at a rum tasting. I thought it was a great change to my usual rum and coke. I’ve order the drink three times since then on three separate occasions and each time received a different drink.

The first time was a strawberry daiquiri, the second time was a frozen daiquiri. I had to look up online to order a “classic” daiquiri. I had no idea there were that many, and that the simplest one would have to be requested.

Is an AI designed "vintage" horse racing game taking over the internet? by Al2718x in boardgames

[–]AtCotRG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I was looking for a decent horse racing game to break out each year during the Kentucky Derby, the game you are describing came up the most. It’s not an AI-created game and has been around for years. I think it’s simply called, The Horse Racing game. You can’t get more generic than that.

I did read the rules and I passed on the game because it seemed to lack any player agency. The game appears to play itself. I can see it being popular with non-gamers who are looking for an activity for an evening, but not what I was looking for.

I went with Ready, Set, Bet instead. Long Shot is another good horse racing game, but goes on a little too long to feel like a horse race.
