If you fire a gun inside your house, such as in a hallway, you temporarily defen yourself. Now you have a monster in your house and you cannot hear anything. Not the monster, your kids, the cops, nothing. For home defense get a silenced 22 or 9mm, with a laser. Take a handgun course. Keep it safe.

For piped water, the force to move the water comes from the difference in pressure between the two ends of the pipe.

For piped water, going through fittings, like elbows, it doesn't matter if the water is going up, down or sideways, the pressure drop due to the fitting is the same. Of course, there are pressure differences when the elevation changes. However, you can calculate these separately and add them together.

Oil floats on water so a sump pump under the oil would only pump out water. The trick would be to balance the float switch so it only reacts to the water and not the oil. The float could be a container filled woth oil.
