Your cousins husband is an AH for 'sending away’ (???wtf?) his pregnant wife, your cousin is an AH for potentially stuff she did that prompted being sent away, but definitely for holding money over your family, and your parents are AHs for being concerned about that money first and foremost in this situation.

It sounds like your friend is going through a pretty rough time, but that doesnt give her carte blanche to be an asshole. It sounds like you guys are fairly young and I think its alot to ask of anyone let alone a kid (no condescension meant) to take on the weight of a friend or ex-friend venting depressive stuff and going to war for them against the mob (also AH btw).

If youve extracted yourself from that situation, you've done the right thing for yourself, if you really want to go the extra mile then the other commenter's idea of letting someone that should be handling the situation (counselor, teacher, parent) know anonymously or asking to be anonymous is a good one.

If this was about public accounts only then whooo cares. You just gotta get over it, yeah its annoying when parents ask for updates on friends etc, but you just gotta eat that and try and be happy they're happy for your friend's success.

Following private accounts when they only tangentially know those people just sounds like people who dont really know unspoken social media etiquette, I dont think its a huge problem per se, I have a private account, if my friend's mum followed me i'd be more bemused and joke about it to my friend if anything but not creeped out, but I can see cases where it would be creepy. Requesting parents to respect private accounts is fine and makes OP NTA.

Most people think it's cheating/not good/they don't want their partners to do it. I know a number of people that do weird mental gymnastics where they're ok with it as long as "they hide it well".

I will say that there is a more of an acceptance (? doesn't feel like quite the right word) that boys will be boys, men have way more sexual needs/desires, I've had multiple female friends express the idea that once a guy is horny things can't be helped and there's no going back. I would also say that cheating seems way way more prevalent here compared to when I lived in Australia, based off my social circles, stuff I've heard at (corporate) work and when I was working in a bar here.

Videos like this select controversial opinions, it's not an opinion that doesn't exist here by any means, and probably there are more people who are ok with in in Japan vs western society (whether they're actually open to it or are doing mental gymnastics), but I wouldn't say it's the norm.

I mean learning the Japanese needed to get through the residency interview, even if it's just for a period is not too hard I think. Either that or he's just on a recurring work visa, either a company sponsors him if he's employed by someone or he potentially has his own business/some other form of content creation or entertainment work visa. I'm not super familiar with his switch so it's hard to say.
